Our Wedding // The Party

our reception / a thousand threads
In addition to being one of the happiest days of our lives, our wedding was also kind of an amazing party.

After Mark and I kicked things off with our first dance, everyone was quick to join in (it was hard not to with such an amazing band!).  The dancing went on all night, and even escalated to a point — I still have no idea how this started, but it was incredible — where everyone at the party co-opted an instrument and played along…

Eventually we took a short break to indulge in our tres leches, salted maple, and chocolate caramel bacon (that’s right, bacon… and of course I tried all three) cake… and to watch our amazing wedding preview in a screening set up by The Cana Family (Ben and Drew completely took our breath away with their work… I’ll share the full film soon, but it definitely deserves its own post.  Can you believe they’re able to put such a beautiful preview together in one night?!).

We closed out the evening in a sing-along with the band… who had gathered in a circle in the middle of the dance floor for a more casual session… the perfect end.  These guys, I swear they just made the whole night.

After a few more drinks and a few more bites of cake, the last of us gathered around the fire to wind down, and to speculate whether the little metal soldier in the corner really was getting up and walking around in the middle of the night (I think the little guy was supposed to be Napoleon, who knows what he might have been up to…).  Then Mark and I headed off to bed, woke up to a beautiful brunch send-off and drove straight to the airport for our honeymoon

I really couldn’t have asked for a better evening.  I feel so lucky to have experienced it all, and will cherish those moments — and the people who made them possible — forever.
