Egg in a basket french toast

I’m gonna go ahead and say that this is probably the most perfect breakfast food known to man, and leave it at that.

Soft, crusty french bread soaked in cream and honey and fried with an egg, doused with maple syrup and served piping hot — can you even imagine anything better?

I didn’t think so…

This right here is the food of my carb-craving dreams.

Egg in a Basket French Toast

1 loaf high quality thick-cut french bread
3 eggs, plus more for frying
3/4 cup cream
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 Tbsp honey
Butter for pan

Mix 3 eggs, cream, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and honey in a large shallow bowl (or 9″ baking tin). Use biscuit cutter or small glass (we used a wine glass) to cut holes in the center of each slice of bread you plan to fry.

Dip bread, one piece at a time, into egg mixture, then place in preheated and buttered skillet. Crack one egg into each center hole. Cook on medium-high heat. Flip after one side has browned and egg has begun to set up on the bottom (will still be good and wobbly on top).

When both sides are browned and egg is cooked to your liking, serve with a generous heap of maple syrup, and die happy.
