Field + Foundry with Bing // Virginia

Field + Foundry was created with the goal of bringing creatives in the greater DC area together to form new connections over a great local meal. And by that standard, I hope I can safely say that our first event was a wild success.

25 amazing creatives from all over Virginia, Maryland, and DC (but mostly Virginia, this was our Virginia event, after all) gathered at a gorgeous little farmhouse on the sprawling acreage of Holy Cross Abbey (where Melissa was lucky enough to grow up) for a night of good conversation and new friends the stretched long into the night

It was the first of three small dinners we have planned, in partnership with Melissa Hope and with Bing, this summer and fall. Each evening will feature an outstanding creative or local business owner who will share a little bit of their inspiring journey with the group. Each will also feature a short workshop that will allow folks to create something they can take home.

For the first of these dinners, Amanda Marko of Trouvé Magazine joined us for an amazing discussion, complemented by the fireflies who made their appearance as her backup dancers right on cue.

Earlier in the evening, guests were treated to a sourdough starter workshop taught by, who else? My very own talented husband (and Dough Uprising partner).

Everyone was invited to make their own sourdough starter to take home in a Weck Jar, graciously provided by West Elm, who also provided our gorgeous dinnerware and serveware.

Guests took home gifts generously donated by Bing, Artifact Uprising, and Trouvé Magazine, along with a Dough Uprising baguette and a bit of honey that we’re glad to see made it into one or two midnight snacks. 😉

The weather didn’t cooperate, but the night might just have been better for it. We were able to move everything onto the cozy covered porch of the farmhouse for a perfect fit.

Candles were lit, comfort food was served, and the conversation stretched well into the night.

I feel lucky for every part of this beautiful evening we shared, but especially for the people who, without an event like this, I might never have known.

After such a long time spent feeling like DC was lacking in something I needed to feel inspired and fulfilled, I’m finally beginning to learn that all that was really missing was my own outstretched hand. The community was there waiting all along.
