If you happen to read Endlessly Enraptured or follow my Instagram feed, then you know my husband and I have a passion for sweets. I wanted to take a bit of time today to share a few of our favorite places in Portland to get your sugar fix.

Bakeshop (above) is a special place run by special people. We can never pass up their delicate hand pies or nutella puffs. Oh, and if you happen to be in the mood for something savory, I highly recommend their ham and cheese croissant. They make the best I’ve ever had.

We used to live right down the street from Ken’s Artisan Bakery and my word, was that wonderful and dangerous all at the same time! My favorite thing they bake is their citrus morning bun. I have dreams about that bun.

Now, I’m certain you’ve heard of Salt & Straw and I’m comfortable in saying that the hype is true. Along with their year round flavors (our favorites being almond brittle with salted ganache and honey balsamic strawberry with Cracked Pepper) they also feature new flavors each month, many of which are in collaboration with other local businesses. The lines of people waiting for scoops can get crazy, so I recommend going early and having ice cream for breakfast or skipping the line altogether by going to their freezer section and buying a pint.

Eb and Bean made their debut a little over a month ago and are serving local, organic frozen yogurt. They have the most epic selection of toppings ranging from almond toffee crumbles and marionberry compote to marshmallow sauce and non-dairy magic shell.

When we first visited Blue Star Donuts and sampled what they had to offer, we knew they were going places. So we weren’t surprised when they recently opened their second location. They create their donuts using a classic french brioche dough. Be sure to try their blueberry bourbon basil and dulce de leche with hazelnuts.

Now while I’m on the topic of delicious fried dough, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Pip’s Original. Order a dozen mini doughnuts so you can try every flavor they offer. And if you are feeling adventurous, order The Dirty Wu: a mini doughnut rolled in raw sugar and cinnamon, drizzled with nutella and raw honey and then finished with pink Himalayan sea salt. It’s oddly scrumptious.
