Coming Up With Colors

Oh, Pinterest, let me count the ways… I know that nearly everyone is obsessed with you at this point and I’m no exception.  I keep coming up with new and exciting ways to use my boards, and I couldn’t be happier about the latest.

The thing is, I’m kind of an analytical person.

I don’t like to admit this, but much to my dismay, pretty much anyone who knows me will list it as one of my top three traits.  Ultimately, it’s a good thing… I’m organized, clean, I make lists… I’m a pretty good nuke wonk.  I really don’t mind.

… but when it comes to things like planning out colors, sometimes I have a hard time envisioning it all in my head… the calculations and logical estimations take over and I’m left with a whole lot of doubt.

Inspiration boards are amazing for this (one reason I love making them so much!) but for some reason, in this case, I just didn’t feel like one inspiration board was enough… or two or three… my vision just wasn’t coming through the way I wanted.

Enter Pinterest.

I just love that I’m able to pin anything I come across that fits within my (kind of odd) color scheme.  You don’t see the combination of coral, jade, aqua, and yellow a lot… so it really helps to be able to mash a bunch of pictures together and see what comes out.

It also helps to have the ability to keep adding.  One thing that this board has really helped me to do is refine the shade of my colors.  Early in my board I pinned a lot of lemony yellows, but I’m moving now to more of a mustard… hoping to tailor the colors a little more to fall.  Since my board can constantly change and evolve, I’m able to see how well that works!

A Little Inspiration: Lakeside Retreat

Martha Stewart Weddings / Pinterest / Martha Stewart Weddings / Style Me Pretty / You Are My Fave

Fall is the perfect time to go to the lake! Play during the day, cozy up in a cabin by the fire at night… I’m so looking forward to crisp fall evenings and everything that comes along with them.  I wish I had a little cabin just like this one to go to.

And wouldn’t a wedding be pretty at my little cabin?  I can see it now: earth tones, bridesmaids with lanterns… that delicious looking cake!  Perfect.

Jadeite Love

Birdcage Veil on Etsy / Martha Stewart via Kirtsy / Jadeite Dishes via Our Nesting Place / Madden Photography / Meadowbrook Farm

I’ve officially started scouring ebay for the perfect jadeite dishes.  Because it’s going to be a small ceremony and I already have about 25 sets of these, my mom has been awesome enough to offer to finish off the table with 25 sets of jadeite.  We tried out the combination when I was home last and the two worked beautifully together.

So if anyone comes across any really fabulous and cheap jadeite (I’m thinking Fire King’s Jane Ray edition?) let me know!

For those of you with a bigger order, there are so many amazing vintage rental shops springing up all over the place.  I just love that the option exists to rent vintage if you’re not into the standard bone china or basic furniture.  100 Layer Cake has a great list here, and if you’re in Southern California, be sure to add in Archive Vintage Rentals.  Stephanie is a total joy to work with — really sweet and so so helpful.

Inspiration is Everywhere

Have you seen the latest issue of Rue Magazine (yes, the one with the Jose Villa cover)?  It may not be a wedding magazine, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a wealth of inspiration within its pages, especially when it comes to color.  Just look at these gorgeous shots:

A Little Inspiration: A Rustic Pop of Color

I feel like most rustic inspiration lacks color, and I understand the urge.  I love the simple look of a barn wedding in natural wood tones.  But what about a pop of color?  Is that allowed?  And how much color is too much color, for any type of event?  I’ve been playing with that idea for a while now.
