Mark and Laicie Brew Some Beer

Now that the fateful tasting day has passed and I can safely say that I haven’t been poisoned, I’m super excited to share some shots from our recent beer brewing adventure!

If you follow me on instagram you might already know that our (kind of middle-of-nowhere) town has a pretty fantastic “brew your own” facility where a guy and a gal can gain access to brewing equipment they’ve scarcely dared to dream of and go to town.

The place is kind of amazing…

We set out on our first, potentially disastrous, brewing adventure with the lofty goal of copying one of our favorites.

We started with a pretty standard recipe for a Black IPA and a few tiny tweaks later, we left our little creation in the fermentation room to do what it might… it was out of our hands.

Two weeks later we returned to bottle it up and then…

Put it in the closet for another two weeks (the process isn’t exactly quick).

The wait was rough, but on Saturday our time was finally up. We put a bottle in the fridge with not just a little fear… and once it was cold we cracked it open.

Mark took the first sip… and the look on his face wasn’t encouraging at all.

I died a little inside, but I raised the glass to my lips…

And damnit if that man hadn’t tricked me.

Seriously, I don’t want to brag but our beer is super good! I’m shocked! I know you don’t believe me, but it tastes eerily close to our Wookey Jack.

Now – thanks to some crazy stroke of beginners luck — the only time I feel sad is when I think that we only made two cases. I want it to last forever.
