Happy Monday! We had a deathly dreary day yesterday – dark, damp, and foggy – so Monday morning called for a little sun, and this shoot makes me smile…

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate your anniversary than to get all dolled up (OMGTHATDRESS) and grab your two favorite guys for a little love shoot at the beach.

For the guys…

bow ties for the groombow ties for the groom
Happy Monday!  I thought I’d start the week off with these great ties from Bull Moose Bow Ties… because, well first of all that’s a great name.  But really, when this little shoot by RJSTILLS came my way on Two Bright Lights it made me smile.  Ties are such an important part of a groom’s attire — I know Mark spent months searching for just the right one — so every time I hear of a great new company I get super excited.

Bull Moose’s ties are completely custom — you can even provide your own fabric (an old shirt you can’t bear to part with, maybe?) — and a full 25 percent of the purchase price is donated to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

I don’t know about you, but I’m keeping these guys in mind the next time I need a great gift.

Love // Seaside Wedding Inspiration

real weddings / a thousand threads
I’ve said it before, but having just gone through my own I feel like it just can’t be said enough… there is nothing like the emotion of a wedding day. Friends and family all in one place, coming together to toast to the future… it’s an amazing feeling. Not only to be marrying your best friend, but to be so close to all of the people you love.

My favorite wedding shots are always those that capture that emotion… and Amber and Austin’s gorgeous seaside affair does just that.

Happy Friday!

fall wedding inspiration
And cheers to another holiday weekend!  I’m excited to cozy up with a big sweater and a cup of something warm to trim our lonely tree.

We took a trip to the farm last weekend and carried the little guy home, but it’s been such a non-stop week that the poor thing has just been waiting, staring at me through the window when I come home at night… whimpering a little when I leave in the morning.  I’m embarrassed to say what terrible tree parents we are… but this weekend, it’s time we dress the guy up.

We’re also planning to brew a little holiday beer… anyone out there have any tips?  Because right now we’re just hoping to come up with something remotely drinkable…

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

This lovely fall wedding inspiration.

My favorite holiday tradition… Santa tracking.

This is just… it looks too delicious for words.

Sweet stocking stuffers.

This gorgeous DIY winter wedding wreath.

Holiday desktop backgrounds?  Why not.

The latest book I’m reading (and loving).

This adorable little family and their van.

The Cutest Cake Toppers Ever from Gloria

Hi all! I’m Gloria from Little White Whale, and I’m so happy to be guest blogging for Laicie while she’s off getting hitched!

My husband and I got married two years ago, and one of my favorite parts of wedding planning was picking a fun topper for our cake…apart from tasting it, of course 🙂 It was a bit of a challenge to find one that fit our quirky style, but eventually we came across a pair of adorable wooden cows that were just perfect for our barn wedding! They injected our simple cake with lots of personality, and were an absolute hit with all our guests – even our grumpiest relatives couldn’t resist their sweet charm. To this day, I can’t help but smile every time I get a glimpse of the two little cows watching over our family from atop the bookshelf. Who knew a simple cake topper would be one of my dearest wedding mementos?

What’s the best piece of marriage advice you’ve ever received?

rylee hitchner
My Fridays are always so much fun… I love being able to share my favorite things with you all, but since I’m away, I thought it might be fun to ask you to share with me! When I come back I’ll be married to my very best friend (and as I write this you guys… I can’t wait!!) so I wanted to ask you… what’s the best piece of marriage advice you’ve ever received?

There are so many classics… don’t go to bed angry, say ‘I love you’ every day… but what, in your mind, is the real key?

A DIY Wedding Keepsake Hanger from Erica

I blog over at Caught On A Whim.  I’m thrilled Laicie invited me over to share a project with you while she’s away saying her ‘I dos’.

Since Laicie is tying the knot, I thought it would be fun to do a DIY with a wedding theme.  Today’s tutorial is a wedding keepsake hanger, because a wedding gown deserves to hang on something extra special.

6 Simple Rules for Planning a Destination Wedding

how to plan a destination wedding
When I tell people that my wedding is on the other side of the country, the first question they always ask is, “How the !!?# did you plan from here?” And I’m not gonna say it was easy, but here are a few things I did that made the process of planning from afar a whole lot easier…

1 // Get a coordinator. Oh my lord get a coordinator. You don’t have to go all the way, you can just get a day of, but having someone on the ground will make a world of difference. A coordinator can answer questions and provide recommendations for anything from the most kickass band to the place you want to have your dress steamed when you get into town.  Most importantly, just knowing you have that person backing you up will relieve a boatload of stress.

2 // Research, research, research. If you can, use yelp. And scour the vendor guides of your favorite blogs like a crazy person. I’m telling you, I can still rattle off who is and is not included in Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book… and whether they also appear on Green Wedding Shoes and Once Wed.  It’s a sickness.

If you’re going overseas use a reputable guide that you trust, like Frommers or Lonely Planet. We depended on these heavily on these for our honeymoon.

3 // Check out the average wedding cost where you’re headed… is it the highest in the country? The lowest? The truth might not change your mind, but it’s a good thing to know going in.

4 // Use Skype.  There is literally nothing better for planning from out of town.  You can still meet every one of your vendors face to face.

5 // If you can, take one trip there before the wedding. Hopefully you already know enough about the venue so that you don’t need to go early on in planning (if you don’t, I really recommend two trips. Don’t book a venue sight unseen… you never know what little surprises might pop up, and you don’t want to discover them after it’s too late).

On your main trip, try your food, cake, meet with your coordinator and officiant and, if you have time, get your engagement shots taken. Rentals, lights, and little details are easy to book from afar.

6 // Relax. This is a destination wedding, and I imagine that one of the reasons you chose this whole deal is that the place is beautiful… right? So here’s the thing. That beautiful place? It counts as big fat chunk of your decor. You might not be able to carry or ship quite as many little details as you’d like, but even with the most minimal personalization, your location will shine – and I’m pretty sure it will beat a 50′ long crepe paper garland any day of the week.

Trust that your wedding will be beautiful and special and yours.

And if there is any little piece of you that doubts me, watch this.

Love // Keith & Lauren

wedding inspiration
Thank you guys so much for all of your awesome book recommendations yesterday, I can’t wait to dive in!  Actually I’m kind of dying, I wish I had the time to start now.

I get all sorts of wedding submissions… big parties, small parties, venues where everything is pre-planned, elopements that were planned in 3 days… there’s no one formula for a beautiful wedding.

But in the end, what really gets me are the emotions.  The bride dancing with her father… the first time the groom sees his bride… the pure joy on each and every person’s face.  That’s the best part…
