Happy Friday!

I don’t say it enough — I know I don’t — but I am a super lucky girl.  This week was less hectic than the last, but still no cake walk.  Working on getting over a nasty cold and easing back in to the day to day of work can weigh on a lady, but coming home to the guy I do makes it ever so much easier… from picking me up when I realize I have to stay so late I miss the last train, to consistently cooking the most amazing meals (and putting me to some serious domestic shame), to sending me a sweet little song in my inbox…

I’m a super lucky girl.

Here are a few (other) things I’m loving this week…

Amazing recaps and advice from the Alt Summit.

Awesome reality checks.

DIY crepe paper flower favors just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Spiced sweet potato crisps.

Adorable flats.

iPhone cases from Society6.

This makes my mouth water.

Welcome to the Weekend

I’m feeling a little under the weather today, but I’m happy to report that no major disasters occurred during my conference… so we’ll call it a raging success!  I’m excited to get back to normal life (and a whole lot of wedding planning) as soon as I kick this cold.

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Wildflowers.

… and protea too.

This amazing receipt paper altar (not to mention the rest of the venue).

Oh goodness

New Rue.

Black bread.

Happy Friday!

Hello, weekend.  I need you.

This week has been massively crazy.  With a big conference coming to term (at work – I’m planning) and our long runs ramping up to 16 miles, I am both mentally and physically exhausted.  This weekend I may just curl up under some super warm covers, book in hand, and actively do nothing… would that be wrong?

Meanwhile, we did manage to take two very important steps in the world of wedding planning this week.

1) We officially ordered our Save the Dates!

… and I really cannot even tell you how excited I am.  I can’t wait to see and share our gorgeous Save the Date cards, designed by my super talented friend Matt Novak (here too) and printed by Dingbat Press.

All letterpress makes me weak in the knees… but this, of course, is extra special.

2) We found our day of coordinator!

After speaking with Cori Lassahn at Avanté Events, I have all the confidence in the world that our day will go off without a hitch… and then some!  Mark and I went back and forth on the coordinator question, but finally decided that the peace of mind was more than worth the cost.

I can’t imagine trying to run everything myself on our day, and even though she’ll tell me I’m silly, I wouldn’t want to put the responsibility on my mom.  I want her to enjoy this as much as we do… not feel the way I will at my conference next week.  This is way too happy an event to waste it with stress.

Or… additional stress.  I suppose when you do the rest of the planning you’ve already forfeited that luxury.

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Hot pink and red <3

Actually, I’m kind of just digging hot pink this week.

Fresh pasta.

… and other things that are decidedly not on the diet.

Giant heart balloons!

Studs.

Valentines adorable-ness.

… and a little more.

These notebooks that I’m pretty sure I need.

Friday Link Love

Oh, my goodness.  It’s 2012, the holidays are over, and my gradual introduction back into normal society has left me feeling a little more like I’ve stumbled out of a bar into the hot summer sun… who turned on all the lights?

This week I’m deep in the depths of planning an event of a very different type (for the lovely DC nuke community) while also charging full speed ahead on the diet and exercise train (hello wedding dress shopping and engagement shots creeping closer and closer to my life) and some hardcore wedding checklist annihilation… plus maybe a little bit of a rewind?  More on that later…

I’m fairly certain that the pace I’ve been keeping lately isn’t going to slow anytime soon, but I’m embracing the crazy and, honestly, finally starting to feel like I’m making some real progress.

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Current obsession: All things southwest.

Lena’s absolutely gorgeous new blog design — and always fabulous content.

This adorable love shoot.

Haha – it happens.

These amazing albums.

More super amazing awesome things to do with Instagram.

So. Much. Pretty.

Happy Friday!

Dustjacket

No doubt a lot of you are already off on lovely holiday vacations, far from the day to day… and mine is just about to start.  Just this final day of work and I’m off to a week and a half of rest and relaxation, catching up, and holiday fun with my guy… who finally has this time off as well!

I have so much to be thankful for this year, I can’t even begin.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays… I hope your last day of preparation is going smoothly (and that mine does as well).

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Joel Serrato and Jose Villa here, here, and here (and the winter 2012 issue of Martha that I’ll be picking up later today).

Did you notice that’s my venue?  OMG.

These awesome DIY stockings.

I want my engagement shots to look exactly like this… please?

DIY ‘vintage’ crates.

Letters to Santa.

An adorable first birthday with calligraphy by Neither Snow.

A winter playlist.

Steep Street

The end of the week is here!  We’re headed off soon for a few days in the woods and the weather is so on our side it’s unbelievable.  I don’t even know what’s happening here in DC.  Weather in the 40s and 50s in December?  I’m knocking on every piece of wood I can find because seriously, this is the best winter ever.

Just right for a backpacking trip with a few good friends, a toasty fire, and some s’mores (you better believe there will be lots of s’mores).

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Everything about this wedding.

DIY dip-dyed stationery from Martha.

This dress.

Christmas with a pallet!

I need to make these.

Unconventional Christmas colors and painted driftwood. <3

12 dates of Christmas.

This adorable Christmas card.

Amazing moms and holiday cookie swaps.

I could eat sweet potatoes every day this time of year.

Happy Friday!

And my how the day is flying by…

I haven’t stopped for a second!  Just a few more hours and it’s off to a lovely weekend, a large part of which will be spent in New York City.  I’m excited to do a little Christmas shopping, take in a show, and enjoy some great food with Mark’s family.  Hopefully, by Monday I’ll be able to report a major dent in that first item on the list (the one that I’m super super behind on).

Until then, here are a few things I’m loving…

This fabulous idea for a wine bottle guestbook.

Glogg.

These vintage sari quilts.  Oh how I need the one in the middle.

Still loving neon.

The floral arrangements in this sweet Texas wedding are perfection.

Sequins and sweaters.

Ooh… in another life, yes.

12 days of mouth-watering cookies… mmm.

This neat vintage grape lug.

Better Homes & Gardens

I am so very happy that it’s Friday — just in case you were wondering.  Lately, the weekends have become a time to catch up.  Things are so busy that I feel like a lot of the normal weekday stuff we might usually do has started to fall through the cracks (like, say, that skeleton planter still sitting outside the door).

So I’m really excited to have some time to tidy up, run a few errands, and (most importantly) get down to business on some serious Christmas decorating… slash de-Halloween-ing (I know… I’m that neighbor… it’s bad).

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

A foggy fall morning… oh Jose, you kill me.

This awesome bookshelf/sconce.

Greyhounds (of the drinking variety).

Do.  I need to do.

Anything and everything that resembles an advent calendar.

This rug — courtesy of this amazing fall wedding roundup.

This genius DIY.

Must.  Make.  Churros.

Okay, I don’t know if this is hitting anyone else like a ton of bricks… but Thanksgiving is oh, about six days away.  Somehow it really managed to sneak up on me this year.  I’m not sure how.  My Pinterest is already beginning to fill with trees and lights and wrapping paper… but somehow it still feels like October.  Somewhere in between the emails and ideas and eBay purchases (all for the wedding) I forgot to prepare for the holidays.

Which is not to say that I’m not ready to bake some pies (my meager contribution to this year’s dinner) but more to say that, mentally, I’m not sure I’m ready for it to be Thanksgiving.

When I was young, Thanksgiving was always an event.  Family came from out of town and my grandparents welcomed them with a warm home and a huge meal.  We dressed up, we caught up, the adults drank singapore slings (silly, but my grandpa makes an amazing singapore sling — in a fashion that looks much less like the Caribbean and much more like the holidays — and it’s one of my most cherished traditions).

Since I left home, Thanksgiving has somehow managed to slip farther and farther from the agenda.  My family is spread all over the country, and my sister has a large family of her own.  Since the holiday break is a short one we don’t usually travel, and everyone ends up celebrating in their own separate way.  Sadly, because of this, a lot of the sentiment is lost.

We still have a celebration.  Mark’s family live close by.  Their home is warm and they always have a huge, delicious meal… none of that has changed.  But I miss my family the most this time of year.

My mom mentioned that we might need to think of a new tradition that brings us all together… and I think she’s right.  This needs to be done.  Had Thanksgiving not been so sneaky this year, creeping up behind me like that, I might have managed to brainstorm a few ideas already… but, not so much.

Any creative solutions you employ to get your own family together for the holidays?  Or have you settled into your own unique traditions?

If you still live close, give your mom a big hug for me at Thanksgiving this year, and don’t forget to take the time to appreciate just how lucky you are.

Here are a few things I’m loving…

Like I said, I’ve given in to the Christmas bug… come on, it’s only one week early, and look at these.  They are amazing.

I want to go to the Portland Bazaar — and if you do, I hope you’ll tell me all about it.  I want to live vicariously.

Great advice on blogging from Kat.

This chair, after… yes please.

Necessary.

Do you know how beautiful you would look on my feet?

Super cute and easy DIY glittered flatware.

Speaking of Thanksgiving.

Happy Veterans Day + Happy Weekend Too!

Ely Roberts via Inspired by This

Are you celebrating with someone you love?  My family is relatively devoid of military service but I can’t begin to convey the level of respect we have for those who have served.  I’d love to hear what you’re doing to honor the day!

Mark and I haven’t quite decided where the weekend will take us.  It feels so extravagant to have him home.  It used to be that we only had this kind of time together here and there and on vacation… now it happens every week.  It feels like we could do anything!

Do you have the same schedule as your significant other, or do you often find yourselves passing in the night?  I’m feeling particularly chatty today, talk to me.

And check out these links…

I may have purchased these immediately after seeing them on Pinterest.

I think I’m hungry today/fearing the end of fall and working to get as much of it in as I can.  So, because maybe you’re feeling the same…

Stuffed Pumpkin with Cheese, Bacon, and Chipotle Chiles

Caramel Apple Cheesecake Pie

Buttermilk Pumpkin Donuts

Drunken Pear and Cider Rum Punch

Princess Bride tea towels at this totally gorgeous wedding via Snippet & Ink.

The prettiest new lace lingerie from Claire Pettibone.
