Our Weekend: Part Two + My Something Old

Remember how excited I was about the little gold brooch pinned to this bride’s dress?  I have a few other accessories in mind that happen to be gold, and I hadn’t realized it before, but silver seriously dominates the sash market.  So I’ve been having the hardest time finding the perfect sash… and my dress definitely needs a little something in that arena.

Enter that little gold brooch.  It was the perfect solution!  So I went looking for my own, and look what I turned up!

All it took was a trip to the Brooklyn Flea.

Our Weekend: Part One

Guys. We had the best weekend.

We took it pretty easy, but it was really one of the best trips I’ve ever taken into the city.  I picked up my dress, and minus one minor breakdown, I’m sure that it will be beautiful on the day.  It’s still a little tough to envision, since the top was clearly made for a lady with, ya know… some boobs (not me).  But it shouldn’t take much to get it fitting just right.

I think my mind will be eased in a big big way after a trip to a good tailor.

Signs of Summer

As the weather warms up, so does my craving for fresh produce.  I swear I could live on the strawberries alone, so sifting through our shots from the Solvang Farmer’s Market has my mouth watering.

Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing + Pop-up Love

Say what you will about the pop-up concept; I’ll be happy to defend.  Because for each and every flop, there is a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing just waiting to wow.  The pop-up ideal (in which a restaurant quite literally pops up for a day, a week, or a few months at a time) allows chefs to unleash their creativity in a way that they never would in a traditional restaurant.  If it works, the chef finds him or her self in a better position to launch their next venture… if it doesn’t, they don’t.

This particular pop-up, set in the old Capri space on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, is so loved that it has extended its original lease and is reportedly in search of a permanent home… all for good reason.  The evening we spent strolling the beach, watching the eclipse, listening to one of the biggest drum circles I’ve ever seen (I kind of love Venice), and sampling our fair share of the menu above was easily one of my favorites on this trip… and pretty high on the list of ever.

Inside Enjoy Cupcakes

I have been in love with Enjoy Cupcakes for some time now, so when it came time to book a baker for my wedding, I knew just who it would be.

Of course, all of that would make sense if I had already tried their cupcakes.  But… I hadn’t.

Instead, I booked Enjoy based purely on their fantastic reputation and their even more fantastic personalities.  It is impossible not to love Amber, Kevin, and their entire family from the first moment you speak.

(That adorable trailer may have also had a little bit of say in the matter.)

But oh my goodness… I had no idea what I was missing.  I am seriously not kidding when I say that Enjoy makes *the best* cupcakes I’ve ever had.  And I promise you I’m not saying that just because I’m biased.  Those of you coming to the wedding won’t be disappointed.

The Santa Ynez Valley

Pinch me.  This is where I’m going to get married.

This place could not be any more beautiful… and if the weather is not always perfect (which I suspect that it is) it was certainly perfect for us.

Today We Fly

jose villa hot air balloon
Just a quick hello from 35,000 feet.  We had a lovely trip and, honestly, I don’t know how I managed to get on a plane and leave.  The Santa Ynez Valley is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places on earth.
