Indie Wed

As a (sometimes over-eager) bride, I have to admit that my heart skips a little beat when I think of the chance to frequent wedding shows… I mean, if you’re not in the wedding industry, how many chances do you have?

But all wedding shows are far from created equal… and every show isn’t a fit for every bride.  Enter Indie Wed… the perfect alternative to the traditional, classic wedding show.

Indie Wed is a unique event that combines the idea of a traditional wedding show with a street bazaar, highlighting local and nearby independent designers and artisans. Most bridal shows tend to cater to a very specific vision of what a wedding should be. Indie Wed is geared towards couples who want to take an “independent” approach to their event. It is wedding planning… redefined.

Indie Wed’s next event is coming up at the end of this month, so if you’re planning to be in the Chicago area on January 28th, I’m jealous!  Don’t miss it.  The tickets are unbelievably affordable and the vendors oh so worth it.

2011 in Instagram

It’s funny the little moments our phones hold… looking back it reminds me of all the things we managed to snap… and all the things we didn’t.

In 2011, we backpacked the Na Pali Coast, celebrated the first year in our very own home, launched this crazy little blog, and got engaged!

In 2012, I’ll become a wife and a stepmom.  Mark and I will solidify a life that has grown immensely — a life that will continue to grow ’til the end.  It’s fun to look back, but even more fun to look forward.  I’m not big on resolutions, but I do believe in striving to make each year better, even if that just means you appreciate it a little more.

With a wedding, a honeymoon, and tons of plans for 2012, all I can hope is to appreciate this year as much as I possibly can — it couldn’t get much more amazing.

{Wedding Film Wednesday}

Would you mind if we do something a little different today?  Like… maybe a proposal film?

With a big dose of Disney (as in both this proposal takes place at Downtown Disney and should be in a Disney movie) a flash mob, and a super nervous adorable groom-to-be this might just be the cutest proposal ever caught on film.

A big big thanks to Lover.ly for pointing this one out on Twitter yesterday!

I can’t actually stop watching…

I dare you not to smile when you watch this adorable dance off shot by the ah-mazing Sharkpig.  This is exactly the amount of fun I want to have at my own wedding…

Jessica & Joe Dance Off from Shark Pig.

You might recognize Jessica and Joe’s wedding from its drop dead gorgeous feature on 100 Layer Cake.  The event was chock full of genius inspiration thanks to the amazing ladies at Bash, Please — who turn everything they touch to gold.

And by the way — if you loved Jessica and Joe’s dance off be sure to take a little time out to watch their beautiful wedding film, also shot by Sharkpig.

Our Whirlwind Weekend

I shouldn’t be at all surprised, but the weekend flew by.

Saturday we climbed on a bus around 6am. The trip is organized by the hospital where Mark’s mother works and it’s a little (a lot) crazy, but always an equal amount of fun. The bus is packed with movies and goodies for the trip up and before you know it, you’re in the middle of New York.

We arrived in Times Square around 10:30 and went straight to a quick early lunch and a little walking around before a Jersey Boys matinee, dinner at Toloache, and back on the bus for the long trip home.

Every bit (with the exception of Times Square — I can’t say it’s my favorite place in New York) was amazing. It was a great show and even better food… and we even had time to pick up a few stocking stuffers here and there. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough time to cab it to any of the places where I would have really liked to shop, but there’s always next time. The city is just 4 hours away and Mark and I really want to head back sometime soon to see Book of Mormon.

This trip was all about family, and it was perfect.

Sunday would have been all about recovery if we hadn’t already scheduled a 9 mile run… which we somehow managed to drag ourselves through, then curl up immediately on the couch with a movie (and maybe a little cheesecake ice cream).  It was a needed dose of relaxation before heading back into the work week.  As much as I love the city, there’s nothing better than my little country home on a cozy Sunday night.

{Wedding Film Wednesday}

I don’t know if it’s the music, the emotion, or the just crazy perfection of the wedding itself but this is one of my favorite wedding films ever.

Maybe you’ve already seen it… but just in case you haven’t, the film is a must watch.  Elsie Larson of A Beautiful Mess put together the most amazing wedding (I mean seriously perfect) and her videographer, Brandon Goodwin, couldn’t have captured it better.

I just love this sweet super 8 wedding film by Modern 8 Films.  Dave and Shelley’s DIY wedding was the perfect little day, and Modern 8 couldn’t have captured it better.

{Wedding Film Wednesday}

You might recognize today’s couple.  It was only days ago that their gorgeous wedding graced the pages of this blog… but when I saw their film I just had to set it aside for the next Wednesday post.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

megan + cameron || that was fun from Hello Tomorrow on Vimeo.

And here’s a little from Hello Tomorrow’s blog, the lovely folks who did Megan and Cam’s film:

First impressions: The couple came to pick us up at the airport when we arrived in Edmonton. While Cam (the groom) waited in the car, Megan (the bride) came in to get us. All I knew about this couple is that both were lawyers. Naturally I was scanning the airport for a very serious looking woman with a subtle up-do, a grey or black pantsuit and sensible, black high heels. Then I heard “Hi guys!” from across baggage claim. I looked up to see this blonde bombshell with big hair, a tight, bright pink, ruffled dress and super high heels! Not the lawyer I was expecting. WAY better. Then we met Cam. Another not-what-you-would-expect lawyer. Cam has facial hair. Cam looks adorably young for his age. Cam loves the environment. Cam REALLY loves sharks. Cam will save all the sharks.

Besides being an incredibly smart and good looking couple, Megan and Cam are very passionate about helping the environment and helping people. They’re one of those couples that make you feel like you’ve known them forever when you first meet them.
