24 Merry Days

20131127-100745.jpg20131127-091645.jpg
Well all, we’re in the car and on our way. We’ll be watching the (balloon-less? keep your fingers crossed for us) Macy’s parade tomorrow and enjoying the rest of the week in New York. But before I go away for the weekend, I have some exciting news!

This year I’m proud to be joining 23 incredible ladies to count down to Christmas with a giveaway each and every day.

… and these giveaways are no joke, you guys. We have a bike from Public Bikes, a pair of shoes from Swedish Hasbeens, gift cards to Anthropologie, West Elm, and The Land of Nod, and so so so much more.

I’m dying to let you know what I’ll be giving away! But it’s a surprise… so you’ll just have to come back to see.

And all 24 of us will be keeping up with the giveaways so that you don’t miss a single one. Check back here or visit the gorgeous website that Gloria designed especially for 24 Merry Days every day, starting on December 1st, for your chance to win.

And with that, I’m off to New York. Keep up with our trip over on Instagram, and I’ll see you all back here on the 1st!

To have you by my side?

Happy one year, love! And happy more than 5 before that… it truly still feels like the first.

We’ve redecorated!

we've redecorated!
… and moved to a snazzy new address!

We’re still working out a few kinks, so hang in there for a day or two, but I can’t even begin to tell you all how excited I am to finally reveal this redesign!  It’s been a long and totally amazing process with the ladies of Freckled Nest — who are so incredible — and I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out!

What do you think?!

Who’s afraid of a little rain? Not us…

instagram lake

It was looking like a lost cause for a while there on Saturday.  We woke up to a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms and some very grey skies.  But in the end I’m proud to say that we all put on our big kid pants and decided we didn’t care.

Rain or no rain, we were going camping.

And hey, the gamble worked out pretty well!  The night was clear enough for a cookout and a campfire, and the rain didn’t start until we were safe in our sleeping bags, snoring away.

campfire

Of course, had things gone really bad, we weren’t roughing it that hard… the property we camped on had not just one but two pavilions… with lights… and a pretty sweet grill… and well, if things really went south, a cabin to hole up in.

Austin is six, so we haven’t quite made it to the hardcore backpacking adventures… those will come.  For now, when we take him camping we’re just looking for a good, secluded place to set up a tent and cook some s’mores.

Because naturally, the six year old is equally as concerned about the s’mores as I am.

the Fritch

I mentioned that the rain didn’t start until we were safe in our beds… and that’s true.  It also didn’t really stop.  We woke up to the pouring rain and a few dashed plans — no bike rides for us on Sunday — but packed up and salvaged the morning with a little breakfast at Barbara Fritchie, a place that, really, there is just no way to describe… if you’re in the Frederick area, it’s worth the experience.

Of course, if you do ever find yourself there, you might also find yourself cursing us for our inexplicable love of this little blast from the past… and truly, I’m sorry for that… but we just think the Fritch is awesome.

A Long Weekend

Okay, so… our weekend didn’t go exactly according to plan.  In Mark’s words, it was great until he hit the ground.

But he could have been hurt a lot worse.  So I’m happy that in the end, he only broke his collar bone.

And the upside of it all is that this kind of pain gets you just about anything you ask for.  In Mark’s case, that meant strawberry shortcake.  I went for Paula’s recipe ’cause basically, Ms. Deen makes everything just that much more delicious by adding extra butter.  Then added this.

Between this, shrimp tacos, a little wine and some food network, we had a pretty low key Memorial Day, but I’m thankful for every second… because if there is anything that an accident makes you remember, it’s how fast everything can change… and how lucky we are.

Oregon in Instagram

Our whirlwind trip home, to the coast of Oregon, barely left me time to think, but Mark did a pretty great job holding down the fort on Instagram.  These are a few shots he took along the way.

Gone Sightseeing

Forgive my conspicuous absence this week.  I’ve been playing tour guide for my family on a whirlwind little trip through NYC and DC.  It has been loads of fun and I have so much to share as soon as things return to normal, but for now, I’ll just be stealing moments aside here and there to put up a post, or maybe a tweet… maybe even a pin.  So be sure to stay tuned in all forms.

P.S. Are you following me on facebook?  I would love it if you would.

In case you had any doubt that spring has sprung… Spiderman just so happened to find himself in a game of tag with a four day old lamb this weekend.

Sadly, I only got to take one of them home, but I think he’ll do.
