Erin & Gathan’s Airport Engagements

Erin and Gathan don’t just love flying, they actually own their own vintage aircraft, so when it came time for their engagement shots, the location was obvious… the local airport.

You might have already noticed that I’m a little obsessed with engagement shots lately (since ours are coming up quickly) and so far I’ve been a huge advocate of the stripped down, simple shoot… but I’m here to tell you that a vintage airplane is one prop I can definitely get behind.

More Simple, Beautiful Engagement Shots

When in comes to our engagement shots, I am entirely sold on the idea of a nice outdoor location, pretty dress, and us — that’s it — and I keep coming across more and more amazing examples that prove my point.

But then, you can’t really go wrong with Elizabeth Messina behind the lens.

Love // Victor & Pilar

I’m not always the biggest fan of “trash the dress,” but this session has me begging for more.  Miguel Varona took these gorgeous shots of Victor and Pilar the day after their wedding in Valencia, Spain.  They were shot entirely on film (be still my heart) on Malvarosa beach and in the surrounding area… and with such a beautiful place and such a beautiful couple, really, how can you go wrong?

Friday Link Love

Everything is really beginning to take shape.  Now that we have the majority of our vendors nailed down, we finally have a little freedom to brainstorm what this thing might actually look like… and we even booked our tickets for a trip to California in May.  We’ll be able to meet with all of our vendors and, most importantly, take our engagement shots!

Now it’s time to decide what kind of engagement shots they might be.

I’m a big fan of something simple, like the shot above, but we’re still very much up in the air on a location.  Any and all suggestions would definitely be welcome.

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

How to tie a bow tie.

This sweet little film by Garance Doré.

Good advice.

Six tasty tips for a foodie wedding.

This awesome outdoor wedding… especially that dress and bouquet.

These gorgeous valentines cards.

NYC from above.

This looks crazy delicious.

A Little Inspiration: From the Groom

All photos found on Pinterest.

I’d like to introduce myself as you know of me, but we have not been formally introduced. My name is Mark. Yes, that’s right, I’m the Groom. I’m the man that has asked Laicie (LO as I call her) to marry me.

Ill be honest, I feel a little lost in the planning of the wedding. I’m no stranger to the notion that a wedding is one of the biggest days of a woman’s life, that from a little girl the images of romance swirl through her head. LO was that little girl and has grown to this woman that now wants to make the wedding reflect the feeling that we have for one another, that’s no easy task.

I feel like I’m a usual groom, I want the wedding to be everything that she has dreamed of. I want to be involved, because the wedding is about us, but I don’t want to get in the way as well. I find myself testing the waters to see how she reacts to know if it will make her happy or not and worst of all I might say, “What do you like?”

Well I’m a fast learner, and it’s taken me since our engagement to realize that this is a fatal mistake. LO really wants my input and having it is as important to her as the wedding itself, I think a lot of Brides are this way.

So, I’ve decided to make amends. One out of the million details that needs to be addressed is the BBQ reception we are having the night before our wedding. This BBQ is a welcome to our weary travelers slash rehearsal dinner. It’s important and has become an event in itself.

So, in a new good faith effort to do what all grooms should do I made an inspiration board!

I created an inspiration board to bring to LO to give her a pure idea of what I envisioned for the BBQ… and then I listened. She loved some parts and didn’t like others… but now we have a platform to mold the BBQ into something that is special for me and special for her.

This is the board I brought to her. Take a look tell me what you think. Ill have her post the final board when we get there.

Floral Inspiration: Poppies

poppy
Of all the temptation one suffers through planning a wedding, I’ve managed to resist, well, a little.

I love flowers more than I can say.  So believe me, my decision to DIY is not for lack of respect for incredible women like Kate and Kelly — whose bouquets I would gladly give my right arm for.  But a girl has to pinch a penny here and there… and flowers are one thing I’ve decided my limited crafting skills might allow.  So, research wonk that I am, I’ve set off to learn as much as I possibly can about the flowers I might be able to use.  And, along the way, I thought I might share a little of the information I learn.

Starting with one of my very favorites… poppies.

{Real Weddings} Sondra & Jason’s Kentucky Classic

Sondra and Jason’s wedding — with its neutral palette, to-die-for location, and cutest kids ever — is one for the books.  The two were introduced three years ago by Jason’s sister and the rest, as they say, is history.

Hair and Makeup: Check + The Etiquette

catherine mead jose villa workshop
Add a check mark to another box — I’ve booked my hair and makeup for the big day!

To be honest, this was another one of those things I went back and forth on.  Should I do my own?  Should I have a professional come to me?  What kind of etiquette applies to bridal party hair and makeup?

I was pretty lost on every one of these questions.  All I knew was that on my day, I want to look like me… and I’ve seen too many brides who just… don’t.  So quality became a big concern if I went professional… and I considered doing my own more than once (which I’ve seen lots of brides do successfully — it’s is so easy with all of the amazing tips out there).

In the process, I learned that the etiquette for this particular question is all over the place.

Happy Friday!

I don’t say it enough — I know I don’t — but I am a super lucky girl.  This week was less hectic than the last, but still no cake walk.  Working on getting over a nasty cold and easing back in to the day to day of work can weigh on a lady, but coming home to the guy I do makes it ever so much easier… from picking me up when I realize I have to stay so late I miss the last train, to consistently cooking the most amazing meals (and putting me to some serious domestic shame), to sending me a sweet little song in my inbox…

I’m a super lucky girl.

Here are a few (other) things I’m loving this week…

Amazing recaps and advice from the Alt Summit.

Awesome reality checks.

DIY crepe paper flower favors just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Spiced sweet potato crisps.

Adorable flats.

iPhone cases from Society6.

This makes my mouth water.
