The Simple Stuff

Wedding planning is a very silly thing. But it’s a very silly thing that somehow, in the silliest of ways, manages to prepare you for what comes next.

The whole truth of the matter is that much as we would both like for it to be, this is not our first trip down the aisle.* I was young and I tumbled my way into a big mistake with an embarrassingly Kardashian end. Mark was more traditional, but also young, and gave it a good go. We both made mistakes that we will never make again.

This time, knowing what we knew, we waited until we were sure… until we knew it was right… and we were careful not to rush into anything. Until, that is, it came to planning; and, technically, we didn’t rush into that either.

The day after our engagement we agreed to wait over a year… give it time. We were paying, we were planning, and we wanted it to be perfect.

We considered eloping. We considered a tiny ceremony with just our parents and best friends.

We considered downplaying the whole thing.

{Real Weddings} Brittany & Casey’s Movie Theater Merriment

Brittany and Casey’s beautiful wedding is full of personal details and meaningful DIY touches. The bride even took the time to fold a thousand paper cranes for their ceremony backdrop (seriously, this girl is amazing).

Read on for all the lovely details from the bride herself…

We love seeing great movies together and loved the idea of getting married in a movie theater. It had a great feel with the art work and it was located in the Heights, where we first moved in together. We tried to play off the movie theme with the decorations and made this into a total DIY wedding! I bought and made my own flower jars for the tables. I made my bridal bouquet when I had found I couldn’t get the peonies I had ordered in time.

On etsy people sell bouquets made out of antique brooches. I decided to make one by going to forever 21 and buying bracelets and taking them apart, rings, pins, etc. I also found a cute fingerprint guestbooks on etsy. With the movie theme, I decided to go with the Up (movie) house with the fingers being the balloons. I bought a frame at Michael’s and I drew the house myself on paper with fine tip markers and got finger paint and picture holder stands from Michael’s.

The biggest project? I folded a thousand paper cranes for our ceremony backdrop. I had heard of the idea before and absolutely fell in love with it. I bought a huge stack of 12″ by 12″ paper from Michael’s and cut each page into four 6″ by 6″ squares and folded each into a crane, and then strung them together using beads, fishing string and a needle… It took several months! My awesome friends hung them on the alter before the wedding. The art inside this place was incredible and was a total compliment to our theme and creative personalities.

Thanks for sharing, Brittany!

Edible Favors and Escort Cards

I think yesterday’s post has me fixated on food… but really, is there anything better than an edible favor?

It’s almost the weekend!

Seriously, put a few extra exclamation points on that statement above.  I’m having a little celebration here in my office.  Just a few short hours and the weekend begins.

The last couple of weeks have felt veeery long… so long, in fact, that I haven’t yet had the time to write a pretty important update on our planning.  One that has been in the works for a while, but finally came full circle (the nicest possible way of putting it) late last week.

I promise I will fill you all in next week, so be sure to check back, but the short story is… we’ve made some changes.  Everything will be a lot more simple, but just as beautiful, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

In the mean time, though, I have to go watch me some Hunger Games (yes, no shame here, I’m obsessed) with my guy — who surprised me mid-week by buying advanced tickets, just to be sure I got to see it… no chances of selling out.

See you all back here soon!  Here are a few things I’m loving…

The inspiration I keep coming back to here and here.

This site that I read literally every post on after I discovered it… it makes me laugh.

This has my mouth watering already for our trip in May.

I want!

I love this.

and this.

This might have to be my first big canning project.

These super cute and creative place cards.

365 days of hand lettering.

Guess who’s coming to the party!

cupcake trailer
Her name is Coral, and she’s the adorable new addition to Enjoy Cupcakes.  You might know her predecessor.

The second I spotted a picture of her floating around on Instagram a few months back I knew I had to contact Amber, who had already agreed to provide my wedding cake, to ask if she could bring her along.

… the little pink trailer was too cute to pass up!

Friday Link Love

I hope you all have an extra lovely weekend!  Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Wild bouquets with lots of foliage.

Spotted pants.

This colorful shoot from some of my favorite people.

… and, while I’m at it, the oh-so-gorgeous new Mag Rouge Magazine, featuring amazing advice from one of my most favorite people.

This book… one of the most inspiring I’ve ever read.

Think maybe I can do it?
