Our Caterer: O Street Food Truck

Speaking of all of those things we’ve checked off the list, this has to be one of the most exciting. You might remember that about halfway through planning we decided to scrap our plans for a super expensive caterer and hire a food truck.

The decision was part of a series of changes that I have not regretted for a single second. If anything, I think they’ve made our wedding a whole lot more fun.

Wedding Updates

After our little shakeup, I decided to take it easy on the hardcore wedding planning for a spell.  Of course, we’ve done tons in the mean time… but it’s been awhile since I’ve made any new plans, and I haven’t looked at my budget once.

And let me tell you: No matter how much you want to press forward, sometimes it is so important to take a step back.

And seriously, lets be honest.  I’m fairly certain that there is no person on earth who has a harder time “taking a step back” than me.  But for those of you out there who are like me, I swear that even downtime can be productive.  In fact, sometimes downtime has be even more productive than the grind.  I can’t tell you how much inspiration has just jumped out and grabbed me during this time, just when I would least expect it.

The break has been more than worth it, and as I begin to jump back in I find that I have loads more energy… I’m excited again!

So here, in a quick snapshot, is what I’m looking at for the next five months…

Inside Enjoy Cupcakes

I have been in love with Enjoy Cupcakes for some time now, so when it came time to book a baker for my wedding, I knew just who it would be.

Of course, all of that would make sense if I had already tried their cupcakes.  But… I hadn’t.

Instead, I booked Enjoy based purely on their fantastic reputation and their even more fantastic personalities.  It is impossible not to love Amber, Kevin, and their entire family from the first moment you speak.

(That adorable trailer may have also had a little bit of say in the matter.)

But oh my goodness… I had no idea what I was missing.  I am seriously not kidding when I say that Enjoy makes *the best* cupcakes I’ve ever had.  And I promise you I’m not saying that just because I’m biased.  Those of you coming to the wedding won’t be disappointed.

Creative Color

Table / Bouquet / Cakes / Escort Cards

From the start, I’ve had a specific color palette in mind for our wedding… but I’ve always had a hard time really envisioning it.  So somewhere along the way, I started a little folder.  It isn’t a pinboard, because something about Pinterest just encourages me to keep on pinning and pinning… and this exercise just feels a little too specific for that.  Instead, it’s just a little folder with a few very specific shots.  The ones that really inspire me.  And since we’re getting close to a lot of our color decisions and I find myself peeking in the folder more and more, I thought I’d share a few of my favorites.

An Epiphany

centerpiece
Oh my gosh. Something just snapped.

I probably should have known that it would. I should have relaxed and waited for the moment that everything started to feel like it was falling into place.

But… I didn’t. And right now, in my ecstasy, I’m pretty sure poor Mark is more than a little scared… since I’m certain I must seem manic.

But it’s true. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve bought a dress, settled on a color palette (more daunting than you might think), envisioned a rough outline of our BBQ and brunch, sipped a possible champagne, and finalized nearly every appointment and plan for our trip in May.

I’ve gotten a whole lot done.  But it wasn’t until now that it suddenly hit me… I think I can finally breathe.

I’m sure it’s different for everyone… but there is a certain point in planning, well, anything… where the really tough, really crucial (whether it’s that crucial or not who cares… the point is it matters to you) stuff is set and the fun can begin. You can start to enjoy.

I know there are a lot more plans in my future… and of course there will still be challenges ahead… but by and large, this is the place where it starts to get fun!

The Dress: I Just Knew

on choosing a wedding dress
I’ve returned a successful lady!!  And I am so sad I can’t share the dress that I bought.  You’ll just have to wait for the wedding pictures… but I promise it’s worth the wait.

Dress shopping was quite the experience, and in the course of a weekend I think I experienced nearly every emotion in the book… but the most significant came as a bit of a shock.

After purchasing my dress I found myself having a funny conversation with my friends.  They asked if I had “that feeling.”  The one that Hollywood tells you you’re going to have… that crazy moment.  But the funny thing about the conversation was not as I had expected… that I didn’t.  That the dress had just been the best I had tried on and through a process of elimination I had settled on it.  The funny thing about the conversation was that when I put it on… I really did know.

Details, Details

Of course, I can’t help but compile some of my favorite dress details before our trip this weekend.

I love a classic dress with an extra little detail.  Some lace here, a ruffle there… the perfect touch that makes it stand out from the rest.  These are a few of my favorites I’ve pinned over the past few months.

Starting the Countdown

Just a few more days (4, to be exact) until my mom arrives for our trip to NYC… and I finally go dress shopping!  I’m not going to lie and say I’m completely excited.  In fact, to tell you the truth, I’m completely terrified… but I am very excited to see my mom and have a lovely girls weekend.

I’m trying not to succumb to the “Say Yes” hysteria, and assume that the perfect dress will magically deliver itself in just one weekend of shopping, but I am kind of hoping…

And, well, I seem to be counting down… so I might be in a teensy bit of trouble.

Like I said… I’m a little bit terrified that it won’t.  But I’m reminding myself over and over that if it doesn’t I do live in quite a large city with loads more options and loads more time and, really, it’s pretty silly to put all of my eggs in one “big apple” basket.

One thing is for certain, I really should stop coveting gorgeous out-of-budget numbers like the one above (spotted on Once Wed today — wow).  But they’re sooo pretty.

Tousled Wedding Hair

My hair and makeup trial is coming up in May, so I’m pinning my little heart out trying to nail down the perfect look.  So far, I’m loving everything soft and romantic… but (much like my wedding dress search) I have yet to make any decisions.

The Simple Stuff

Wedding planning is a very silly thing. But it’s a very silly thing that somehow, in the silliest of ways, manages to prepare you for what comes next.

The whole truth of the matter is that much as we would both like for it to be, this is not our first trip down the aisle.* I was young and I tumbled my way into a big mistake with an embarrassingly Kardashian end. Mark was more traditional, but also young, and gave it a good go. We both made mistakes that we will never make again.

This time, knowing what we knew, we waited until we were sure… until we knew it was right… and we were careful not to rush into anything. Until, that is, it came to planning; and, technically, we didn’t rush into that either.

The day after our engagement we agreed to wait over a year… give it time. We were paying, we were planning, and we wanted it to be perfect.

We considered eloping. We considered a tiny ceremony with just our parents and best friends.

We considered downplaying the whole thing.
