Shouldn’t the groom get to look good too?

Brooklyn Tailors

There is nothing quite so wonderful as a man in a well-tailored suit… and, in my opinion, nothing quite so unfortunate as a groom in a suit that doesn’t fit.

This is one place where I’m always a little confused when it comes to weddings. Why, when I am encouraged by the media to spend upwards of $10,000 on a dress (I didn’t… I promise) is my guy encouraged to run on down to the nearest rental shop for whatever he can find? (naturally I’ll eat my words if you’re the kind of bride who also has chosen to rent your dress — which is totally possible these days)

I believe that my groom should have the opportunity to feel just as fantastic as I do on our day.

Wedding Invitation Wording that Doesn’t Suck

It took us forEVER to decide on our wedding invitation wording.  It’s not that we were all that indecisive, really, but the thing is, unless you’re planning to go completely traditional, or are a master wordsmith, there aren’t a whole lot of alternatives out there.

In fact, I felt a little overloaded by options that sound suspiciously like a nursery rhyme.

So let’s just say I spent a few (million) hours scouring the web for something a little less traditional that also didn’t suck, and after all of that time invested, I thought I should share a few of my favorites (many of which come from this amazing list here… a treasure trove of unconventional alternatives, it is).

Of course, all of the options listed below can be mixed, matched, and adjusted as you like. Take a little from here, a little from there, until you have the perfect combination.

And if you’re looking to include a really great quote, don’t forget about our very own Quiet Sundays.

(oh, and scroll all the way to the bottom of the post if you want to see the wording we eventually settled on)

What do you think? Would you go with something super unconventional, or do you prefer more traditional wording?

Currently Obsessing Over: Calligraphy

calligraphy / a thousand threads
Actually, it’s a little embarrassing just how much I’ve managed to obsess over calligraphy these past few months… something about this one little element of design manages to bring out the crazy like few things can.  Colors, materials, big letters, small letters… I tell you, I’ve found things to obsess about that no sane mind ever should.

But I’m happy to report that yesterday, I officially boxed everything up and sent it off!  Soon, our invitations will be ready to go, our place cards perfect, and our table numbers set.

Our Engagement Shots: Part 2

We took these shots in what has to be one of the most beautiful, but totally deserted, spots in Agoura Hills (meticulously scouted out by our photographer, Steve Steinhardt, who I swear read my mind) in between cake tastings, food tastings, and a million other little details and appointments.  After all, we had just one trip out to California to get everything down.

With all of our prepping and planning still swimming in my head, I was worried that slowing down and posing for the camera might feel awkward (then again I’m not sure I really need the added stress to feel awkward posing… that’s kind of a given) or something might go wrong, but I think it’s pretty obvious from a few of our shots, laughing my butt off (oh man, if only I could bring myself to share the outtakes… I was in full form, that crazy laugh of mine) that we had a ton of fun.

Our Engagement Shots: Part 1

Okay, I’m guilty. I meant to narrow these down to just one post… but it’s just too hard.

I’m not going to say that I love myself in every shot… because really, no matter how gorgeous the pictures, a gal can always find a flaw. But still… the light…

Just a little sneak peek…

Our engagement shots are here and I am sooo excited to share.  Be sure to check back tomorrow, once I’ve had a chance to narrow them down… I love them all too much to choose!

Our Wedding Invitations

You guys, I’m so excited to share this with you today.

Remember our Save the Date?  Well here’s the rest of the package, designed by the über-talented Matthew Novak, who took Mark’s simple pencil sketch of our farmhouse (and a little touch of calligraphy from Neither Snow) and transformed it into something more beautiful than I ever could have imagined.

I literally could not be more happy with how our whole invitation suite turned out.  If you’re in the market, seriously, run don’t walk.

Also?  I can’t believe it’s almost time to send these out.  My ‘knot’ checklist has officially downgraded me to the 2-3 month timeline… when I’m actually pretty sure it’s still 4… and not that I’m nitpicking or anything, but the head trip isn’t helping.

Just sayin’.

Our Weekend: Part Two + My Something Old

Remember how excited I was about the little gold brooch pinned to this bride’s dress?  I have a few other accessories in mind that happen to be gold, and I hadn’t realized it before, but silver seriously dominates the sash market.  So I’ve been having the hardest time finding the perfect sash… and my dress definitely needs a little something in that arena.

Enter that little gold brooch.  It was the perfect solution!  So I went looking for my own, and look what I turned up!

All it took was a trip to the Brooklyn Flea.

Our Weekend: Part One

Guys. We had the best weekend.

We took it pretty easy, but it was really one of the best trips I’ve ever taken into the city.  I picked up my dress, and minus one minor breakdown, I’m sure that it will be beautiful on the day.  It’s still a little tough to envision, since the top was clearly made for a lady with, ya know… some boobs (not me).  But it shouldn’t take much to get it fitting just right.

I think my mind will be eased in a big big way after a trip to a good tailor.

The Diet: An Update + My Favorite Healthy Food Blogs

Last time we spoke about this subject, Mark and I had decided to give up sugar and flour and everything else a few other things in an attempt to eat super healthy.

But let’s just be real here.  Eating right is super hard, and having a major event like a wedding looming on the horizon doesn’t always help the matter.  In fact, in a lot of cases, it does the opposite.

So if you’ve gained instead of lost in the course of the whole deal, well, high five.  I’m on your team.

After our failure, and as our engagement shots neared, I began to get desperate.  And despite my deeply held hatred of crash and fad diets, I even managed to talk myself into a couple of fasts… secretly loving the idea that I might be able to cleanse and restart my system, blossoming into the kind of person who dreams of quinoa and kale and shuns all thoughts of cheesecake.

But if there is one thing I really love… it is cheesecake.

Good food, good wine, and good conversation are an essential part of life in my book.  And the parts that make up the whole of a truly good meal are some of my favorites.  Deprivation just isn’t my game.
