On Running With Abandon and the Death of Micah True

While driving home on Friday, I was struck by the sad news that Micah True (or “Caballo Blanco,” the central figure in the story I lauded just weeks ago) had died. The news hit me hard, because I had truly been so inspired by his life and his love of running. I was a little late to the news and, sadly, it seems I was a little late to his story… but I will be forever changed for having known and cared about this person who I never met… and, maybe, that is because I will be forever changed for having become a runner.

Starting the Countdown

Just a few more days (4, to be exact) until my mom arrives for our trip to NYC… and I finally go dress shopping!  I’m not going to lie and say I’m completely excited.  In fact, to tell you the truth, I’m completely terrified… but I am very excited to see my mom and have a lovely girls weekend.

I’m trying not to succumb to the “Say Yes” hysteria, and assume that the perfect dress will magically deliver itself in just one weekend of shopping, but I am kind of hoping…

And, well, I seem to be counting down… so I might be in a teensy bit of trouble.

Like I said… I’m a little bit terrified that it won’t.  But I’m reminding myself over and over that if it doesn’t I do live in quite a large city with loads more options and loads more time and, really, it’s pretty silly to put all of my eggs in one “big apple” basket.

One thing is for certain, I really should stop coveting gorgeous out-of-budget numbers like the one above (spotted on Once Wed today — wow).  But they’re sooo pretty.

Happy Holiday Weekend!

Even though the weekend promises to be busy with preparations for family coming to town next week, I am so looking forward to Sunday.

I’ve always loved Easter.  When I was little, my mom (or, erm… the bunny) used to make me a little scavenger hunt that I would follow all the way to my basket.  The hunt was just as much fun as the basket itself.  Now that I’m older, I am equally excited to hunt all the way to my very favorite restaurant for Easter brunch.  Not to mention waking up early for mass and searching out Easter eggs in Mark’s parents’ backyard.  Easter is always a nice time spent with family and friends.

Tell me, do you have any special plans for this weekend?  Are you as excited as I am?

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

This fantastic New Orleans wedding… every single bit of it is perfect.

These bright yellow earrings.

Peeeeeeps!

And in case you’re not quite as into marshmallows as I am… these.

The detail in this gorgeous dress.

This beautiful dinner at the farmhouse.

Tousled Wedding Hair

My hair and makeup trial is coming up in May, so I’m pinning my little heart out trying to nail down the perfect look.  So far, I’m loving everything soft and romantic… but (much like my wedding dress search) I have yet to make any decisions.

{Real Weddings} Katie & Brett’s Handmade Celebration

I love this bride and groom’s description of their wedding even more than I love each and every handmade detail.  Their words and wedding are the perfect representation of everything I’ve been feeling lately.  I’m so happy they sent this my way!

We wanted our wedding to feel like home. A place for our guests to kick off their shoes and celebrate the love we have for each other. Everything was hand made, home baked, and even borrowed from our families homes. Every single part of our wedding was a generous gift of time, skill and love from all of our favorite people. What we wanted most from our day was to have a great time with each other. To dance, eat, and drink with the people we love most. And to leave hand in hand. We did just that. It was a great way to kick off a life time of fun with our best friend. We hope you enjoy the photos from the Big Day as much as we do.

Friday Link Love

I wasn’t sure what kind of reaction I might encounter when I hit “publish” on yesterday’s post, but I was so pleasantly surprised.  Thank you all for your kind words here and in person, I can’t tell you how much they mean.

I hope that I am able to help a few brides in some small way… and I hope you all know how much you (and this blog) help me every day to sort out, share, and someday look back on this crazy adventure.  All of my love goes out to those of you who find yourself planning as well.  It’s a tough journey, but oh so worthy of making.

I hope you all have a beautiful weekend!  I’m planning on a nice, relaxing, slightly rainy one (just as beautiful as any) hopefully curled up with a new book.  Let me know if you have any good recommendations!!

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Overgrown bouquets.

This awesome and super-easy DIY camera strap.

Chalkboard paint and good advice.

Ohh… Up.

This cake that turned out even better than expected.

Pink watercolor place cards.

This pretty little program.
