A Perfect Christmas Proposal

Lance and Kathryn have known each other since the fifth grade, so Lance had to be tricky to hide his plan from this girl who knows him so well.  He decided to talk her into a Christmas photo shoot (such a fun idea, even without the proposal) and, because she might suspect that something was up, wait until the very end to get down on one knee and propose.

The best part?  The whole thing was captured by the talented Melissa McCrotty who pulled of an unbelievably gorgeous Christmas shoot in the process.

Our Whirlwind Weekend

I shouldn’t be at all surprised, but the weekend flew by.

Saturday we climbed on a bus around 6am. The trip is organized by the hospital where Mark’s mother works and it’s a little (a lot) crazy, but always an equal amount of fun. The bus is packed with movies and goodies for the trip up and before you know it, you’re in the middle of New York.

We arrived in Times Square around 10:30 and went straight to a quick early lunch and a little walking around before a Jersey Boys matinee, dinner at Toloache, and back on the bus for the long trip home.

Every bit (with the exception of Times Square — I can’t say it’s my favorite place in New York) was amazing. It was a great show and even better food… and we even had time to pick up a few stocking stuffers here and there. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough time to cab it to any of the places where I would have really liked to shop, but there’s always next time. The city is just 4 hours away and Mark and I really want to head back sometime soon to see Book of Mormon.

This trip was all about family, and it was perfect.

Sunday would have been all about recovery if we hadn’t already scheduled a 9 mile run… which we somehow managed to drag ourselves through, then curl up immediately on the couch with a movie (and maybe a little cheesecake ice cream).  It was a needed dose of relaxation before heading back into the work week.  As much as I love the city, there’s nothing better than my little country home on a cozy Sunday night.

Happy Friday!

Tec Petaja

And my how the day is flying by…

I haven’t stopped for a second!  Just a few more hours and it’s off to a lovely weekend, a large part of which will be spent in New York City.  I’m excited to do a little Christmas shopping, take in a show, and enjoy some great food with Mark’s family.  Hopefully, by Monday I’ll be able to report a major dent in that first item on the list (the one that I’m super super behind on).

Until then, here are a few things I’m loving…

This fabulous idea for a wine bottle guestbook.

Glogg.

These vintage sari quilts.  Oh how I need the one in the middle.

Still loving neon.

The floral arrangements in this sweet Texas wedding are perfection.

Sequins and sweaters.

Ooh… in another life, yes.

12 days of mouth-watering cookies… mmm.

This neat vintage grape lug.

{Wedding Film Wednesday}

I don’t know if it’s the music, the emotion, or the just crazy perfection of the wedding itself but this is one of my favorite wedding films ever.

Maybe you’ve already seen it… but just in case you haven’t, the film is a must watch.  Elsie Larson of A Beautiful Mess put together the most amazing wedding (I mean seriously perfect) and her videographer, Brandon Goodwin, couldn’t have captured it better.

Desert Rose Inspiration Shoot

I’m going to be honest.  I may have squealed a little when I opened up this gorgeous submission from Gaby J Photography.  Roses, cactus… a pretty girl in a vintage dress.

Is it just nostalgia that makes me desperate to break out my grandmother’s desert rose?  I can see the table now.

{Real Weddings} Ben & Kellee’s Bright Bookish Bash

Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was as wonderful as ours. We spent the time getting ourselves a little more organized (I finally downloaded this app — amazing) and decorating for the holidays. We picked out the perfect tree, strung some lights, and listened to tons and tons of happy Christmas music. And with all the holiday cheer, I just can’t get red and white out of my head… so I really found it hard to resist today’s gorgeous red wedding.

Although, I’m pretty sure you’ll find it hard to resist too… whether you’re seeing red or not!

Ben and Kellee are writers, and they made sure that their personalities took center stage in this gorgeous DIY celebration. Their love of print was on hand with pages strung from the rafters and the couple’s favorite books on each table.

The beautiful, casual wedding featured a vintage typewriter, set out so that guests could leave their well wishes and advice, and paper cranes and fortune cookies… a cute nod to Kellee’s heritage.

The totally gorg reception venue, Performance Works (now a rehearsal and performance venue) was originally a machine shop dating back to the 1920’s… and they took full advantage of its many bright, colorful nooks and crannies for some seriously amazing shots.

And (maybe the best detail of all) the ceremony was held at Ron Basford Park, where Kellee’s brother played the ukalali while the rest of the bridal party sang as she came down the aisle.

Friday Link Love

Better Homes & Gardens

I am so very happy that it’s Friday — just in case you were wondering.  Lately, the weekends have become a time to catch up.  Things are so busy that I feel like a lot of the normal weekday stuff we might usually do has started to fall through the cracks (like, say, that skeleton planter still sitting outside the door).

So I’m really excited to have some time to tidy up, run a few errands, and (most importantly) get down to business on some serious Christmas decorating… slash de-Halloween-ing (I know… I’m that neighbor… it’s bad).

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

A foggy fall morning… oh Jose, you kill me.

This awesome bookshelf/sconce.

Greyhounds (of the drinking variety).

Do.  I need to do.

Anything and everything that resembles an advent calendar.

This rug — courtesy of this amazing fall wedding roundup.

This genius DIY.

Must.  Make.  Churros.

Laundry Day Inspiration Shoot

With the weather turning cold, it’s all I can do not to think about the long winter ahead… so this sunny, sexy inspiration shoot is a welcome distraction. The shoot was a total DIY by Chelsea McGowan of McGowan Images and Meagan Bechtel of MegBDesign… right down to the flowers from the local grocery store.

And as if that weren’t enough, I am just plain in love with Chelsea’s answer to the question below…

Whenever we post things like this, I always get someone who asks, “Why?” The answer is, and will probably always be, because I want to. It’s nice to shoot for ourselves. It keeps us creatively limber, and it’s fun. As a bonus, it encourages our brides to think outside the box for their own sessions and wedding decor. I hope we’ll always remember to set aside time a few days a year to shoot sessions like this, just because we want to create something beautiful.

Me too!! Thanks, Chelsea, for sharing this gorgeous shoot!

{Wedding Film Wednesday}

I just love this sweet super 8 wedding film by Modern 8 Films.  Dave and Shelley’s DIY wedding was the perfect little day, and Modern 8 couldn’t have captured it better.
