Carnival Inspiration Shoot

The Great Frederick Fair just recently left town and I’m already in mourning… it’s a little known fact that I spent a week out of nearly every summer of my childhood at the Coos County Fair as a proud 4-H’er and later, a rodeo queen (oh ya… that’s right).  To this day, nothing quite spells summer like the fair.  Caramel apples, kettle corn, scones (or elephant ears, whatevs), and those spinning rides I still don’t know how I stood as a kid.  The thought makes me so nostalgic.  It’s easy to see how someone might want to draw on some of that same nostalgia for their wedding… or maybe even their engagement party?  There is so much fun to be had!

Thank you so much to Eventity Inc and Iliana Morton Photography for sharing this fun shoot!

{Real Weddings} Shirley & Perrin’s Fun Family Affair

Oh I love this wedding!  It is so casual and beautiful at the same time, and everyone is involved… even that super adorbs mr. dog down there!

There was definitely a time in my life when I would have said hands off to the (ahem) vertically challenged lot… but I think I’ve evolved past that point.  While I still wouldn’t say no to an amazing babysitter to keep the little ones entertained… weddings are really about family.  Why else are you going to all the trouble of having such a big party, if not to show your family how much you love and care about them?  That you want them to be a part of your special day.  Chances are, there are a couple of little ones out there that you love and care about too?

… I promise their moms will be super reasonable and make sure they don’t spill grape juice on your dress (right?).

A Little Inspiration: Sunday Brunch

Strawberries / Couple / Bunting / Decanters / Apple Bombs / Jars

My mom is planning our Sunday brunch and I’ve already been warned that I have very little say in how it comes out… which I am largely okay with.  My mom throws a great party.

I say “largely” only because deep down, no… probably right out there on the surface, I am a massive control freak.

So, being the big freak that I am… I took a few of the ideas that my mom has shared and compiled them for her… pops of red, green, and yellow… gingham… a country feel (without being too overly country… right mom?) and I have to say, I really like how it turned out!  I think I’m on board… even if I can’t control where I go.

{Real Weddings} Ashton & Michael’s Gorgeous Fall Fête

I am so excited to share today’s real wedding with you all… it doesn’t get much more up my alley.

The venue was personal, the decor was personal, the theme was personal… every little piece of this wedding represented who Ashton and Michael are as a couple (scroll down to the bottom for an awesome explanation from their photographers).  This is the way it should be.

… and it’s gorgeous to boot!  Just look at those flowers.

Oh, and by the way, this wedding was shot by the amazing husband and wife photography team, Scarlett & Stephen… if you think Ashton and Michael are cute, just take a look at them.  Here’s what Stephen had to say about this wedding…

From the first meeting I had with Ashton, she pulled out her wedding planning book (note to self, I still need to get one of those!) and showed me all the details she was putting together for her in-nature-themed wedding. Ashton and Michael love camping together and Michael even proposed on a camping trip, so the theme they wanted for their wedding was pulling in all things nature. Also, they chose to have their wedding at Stephen Foster State Park because Michael’s grandfather helped build the Florida Trail that goes from the top to bottom of Florida and runs through the Stephen Foster park too. The park also had a gorgeous old Southern plantation mansion in the middle of it that is now turned into a museum. I loved how organic this wedding was with burlap table details, spanish moss, and even the wedding cakes representing tree trunks. Also, for the altar, Ashton used her great-grandmother’s old lace drapes that her grandmother stitched together to bring some family history into the ceremony.

Just Another Day in the Garden

(my mom’s garden, that is)

For as long as I can remember, my mom has always held these elaborate luncheons for friends in her garden.  She makes loads of amazing food, about five different desserts — way more than anyone could ever consume in a single sitting — and decorates everything to a T.

This time she used my dishes, since I’ve been shipping them to her house (closer to the wedding), and sent a few pictures.  Don’t they look pretty?

… so if there’s ever any doubt as to where I got the party planning bug, well… see above.

Coming Up With Colors

Oh, Pinterest, let me count the ways… I know that nearly everyone is obsessed with you at this point and I’m no exception.  I keep coming up with new and exciting ways to use my boards, and I couldn’t be happier about the latest.

The thing is, I’m kind of an analytical person.

I don’t like to admit this, but much to my dismay, pretty much anyone who knows me will list it as one of my top three traits.  Ultimately, it’s a good thing… I’m organized, clean, I make lists… I’m a pretty good nuke wonk.  I really don’t mind.

… but when it comes to things like planning out colors, sometimes I have a hard time envisioning it all in my head… the calculations and logical estimations take over and I’m left with a whole lot of doubt.

Inspiration boards are amazing for this (one reason I love making them so much!) but for some reason, in this case, I just didn’t feel like one inspiration board was enough… or two or three… my vision just wasn’t coming through the way I wanted.

Enter Pinterest.

I just love that I’m able to pin anything I come across that fits within my (kind of odd) color scheme.  You don’t see the combination of coral, jade, aqua, and yellow a lot… so it really helps to be able to mash a bunch of pictures together and see what comes out.

It also helps to have the ability to keep adding.  One thing that this board has really helped me to do is refine the shade of my colors.  Early in my board I pinned a lot of lemony yellows, but I’m moving now to more of a mustard… hoping to tailor the colors a little more to fall.  Since my board can constantly change and evolve, I’m able to see how well that works!

A Little Inspiration: Lakeside Retreat

Martha Stewart Weddings / Pinterest / Martha Stewart Weddings / Style Me Pretty / You Are My Fave

Fall is the perfect time to go to the lake! Play during the day, cozy up in a cabin by the fire at night… I’m so looking forward to crisp fall evenings and everything that comes along with them.  I wish I had a little cabin just like this one to go to.

And wouldn’t a wedding be pretty at my little cabin?  I can see it now: earth tones, bridesmaids with lanterns… that delicious looking cake!  Perfect.
