The date // Ghost town tree hunting.

In any regular year, we’d already have our tree. We’d have taken Austin to the tree farm weeks ago to fight over saws and carts with the other local families while waiting to pick the perfect tree from many perfect trees.

But then, this hasn’t been such a regular year… and somehow, like most things, our tree hunting experience came to represent our lives as they are now, and not so much as they were…

Summer is here! // $100 Anthropologie giveaway

Living on the east coast has definitely changed my perspective on a few things: public transportation, the meaning of the words ‘custard’ and ‘barbeque,’ and maybe most of all, Memorial Day.

Sure, it’s a big deal everywhere, but on the east coast Memorial Day weekend isn’t just the beginning of summer — it’s the beginning of pool season. Sometimes it’s been hot for months, but no matter, the pools stay closed. After all, it’s still spring – even if it is 95 degrees. And partly for this reason, because we have such staunch cut-off dates, summer never seems to last long enough… which makes it, and our short pool season, even more special.

So this year, because I’m so excited about so many things, I thought we should celebrate the beginning of summer – and more importantly, pool season – with a little giveaway!

Because now that we’re all allowed to get in the water, naturally we need a new bathing suit to mark the occasion.

Of course you can spend the money on anything you like. Maybe you live somewhere where you feel slightly less like a slave to the seasons… I bet it’s glorious. In that case you can buy yourself a pretty dress or a lovely new pair of sunglasses, or maybe even something for your home. The options here are endless.

Brands that give back // Minted + Every Mother Counts

Mother’s Day is almost here, and in honor of both our own mothers and many more mothers out there in need, I’m excited to announce a special promotion.

Minted — I think you may have heard of them? But just in case. — already gives 2 percent of all of its art print sales to Every Mother Counts, an organization that makes sure pregnant women in struggling countries receive the healthcare they need. The partnership is an amazing and admirable one that they announced at Alt 2014.

DIY silk tie dyed Easter eggs

I’ve always had a little bit of an obsession with untraditional Easter eggs. Drawn on, painted on, glittered and taped… whatever you can think of, I’m usually down. As a kid, I spent every April with a big ball of wax and what looked like a chemistry kit — I had the coolest Ukrainian eggs on the block.

(Insert jealous oohs and ahhs here.)

This year I thought about pulling out the kit, strutting my fancy stuff for the family (I know they would’ve died of excitement) but then I started wondering… what else is out there in the world of eggs? What if there’s something super cool I haven’t tried? Something I haven’t even heard of!

And — much to my delight — the answer was yes. There was something cool I hadn’t even heard of.

As it turns out, you can die eggs with nothing more than a silk tie and a big pot of water. (Okay you need like two more things, but my mind is blown.) It’s easy, they look great — and if you’re doing it with kids, they’ll love that they get to unwrap the finished eggs like a present.

There’s also a slight chance that this project might afford you an excuse to do a little thrifting.

What I’m saying is that I can see absolutely zero reason not to drop everything and do this right now.

Okay well maybe you need the instructions first… (but then really, thrifting… go.)

Valentines Day Giveaway // Datevitation

Want to give a really fun gift this Valentines — how cute would it be to give a date coupon book? I remember making things like this as a kid, but Datevitation takes them to a whole new level with adorable cartoons, gorgeous designs, and perfect packaging.
