The stockings were hung…

diy stocking / a thousand threads
We’re all ready for Santa… and how could he resist such charming cold-weather gear?

I’m signing off for now, but I’ll see you back here in 2013. Have a happy holiday and an amazing new year!

And be sure to keep reading for what might have been the easiest diy stocking ever (just my kind of project).

Oh Christmas tree…

our christmas tree / a thousand threads our christmas tree / a thousand threadsxmastree 8
I swear our house was meant to have a tree in it all year — I couldn’t love it more.  But then I guess I’d miss out on pulling out our ornaments… which is sort of like opening a little Christmas present in itself because I always forget what we have.

My favorites, though, never change.  My favorite ornaments are these little glass balls that belonged to Mark’s nain.  Some are fading and some are beginning to chip, but that just makes them all the more special.

Do you keep an assortment of sentimental ornaments from over the years, or do you have a matching collection?  I think both can be just as beautiful.

Welcome to the Weekend!

christmas
Just one more work week ’til Christmas!  (is that right?)

This weekend I’ll be holing up in my kitchen with a glass of wine and a great excuse to bake all of the ridiculous delicious-ness that lives on my pin board.  Christmas cookie time is my favorite… my pots and pans are literally sprouting legs and walking themselves to the oven as we speak.  They’re that excited.

Do you have any special plans?

Here are a few of my favorites…

Brilliant.

A Sunday Suppers book!

Colbert on cynicism.

I am a nerd.  And these are super cool.

This perfect little Christmas tree.

Understated Christmas decor.

Oh goodness.

Homemade bitters.

10 rules for a successful Christmas tree brought to you by your favorite non-practicing WASP.

Because you are.

These kill me with their cute-ness.

Our house is super cold in the winter… (hint, wink)

Because I don’t know, Mariah is synonymous with Christmas and this is awesome.

Jen Huang can do no wrong.

Friday Link Love

french farmhouse christmas
Oh how I’ve missed my link love!  During the day, when my mind inevitably wanders toward my reader all I have to do is think of this weekly post and suddenly I feel so productive (hey, cuddly kittens do equal productivity, right?).  It’s totally not my fault, I have to read the blogs so I can… keep up… my… own… okay maybe there’s a hole there but never you mind.

Anyway, I’m having so much fun catching up on everything I’ve missed the past few weeks, especially the holiday gift guides that seem to be everywhere (and thank the stars for that because I need them desperately this year).  It’s crazy to jump from the beach straight into the holiday season, but it just makes me that much more excited to get into the spirit… and by that what I really mean is that the mulled wine begins now.  It’s cold.

But seriously, bring on the Christmas cheer, with a little break in my back pocket I’m relaxed and ready to go.  I might even try a DIY or two.  Who knows?

(Don’t get excited, I DIY at approximately a third grade level.  We’ll be lucky if everyone comes out alive.)

What are your plans for the weekend?  Are you as excited for the holidays as I am?

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

French farmhouse Christmas bits I pine for every year… and while we’re at it, I’ll take the farmhouse too.

I’m seriously considering making cranberry relish this weekend just so I can have this (I am actually pretty sad I missed out on leftovers).

Do you send holiday cards?

I can see this packing guide coming in super handy.

A Subtle Revelry’s holiday issue.

Tons and tons of healthy smoothie recipes. (also: healthy booze)

Nutella cinnamon rolls.

You should be mine.

Whiskey escort cards — brilliant.

A Little Inspiration: Halloween in White

1/2/3/4/5/6

The idea of decorating for Halloween in shades of white has always appealed to me.  I love white, and even more, I love anything unexpected.  Anything I can do to put a new spin on an old tradition is good with me.  How about you?

What’s your favorite holiday trend?  Or would you rather stick to tradition?

Currently Obsessing Over: White Spaces

There was a time when I couldn’t stand a white wall… probably brought on by long periods of apartment-hopping, never settling long enough to paint the space (if I was allowed to at all).

But now that I’ve had a couple of years to recover, I find myself gravitating toward these gorgeous clean spaces.

Especially when they’re paired with those rich wooden beams.

Next home?

A girl can dream, right?

P.S. Thank you so much to everyone who filled out last week’s survey.  It is amazing to have all of your feedback, and I promise it won’t go to waste.  Over the next few months (and into the future) I’ll be working to make A Thousand Threads better than ever… so please do stay tuned!

And if you didn’t have a chance to participate, I’ll be leaving the survey open for at least a few weeks.  Answer one question, answer them all… whatever you have time for.  Every little bit helps!

(happy Wednesday — half way through the week! … … optimism helps the hump.)

Currently Obsessing Over

This napkin set, featuring correspondence written by the likes of Mark Twain and Emily Dickinson, would be the perfect addition to any registry.

Or maybe even an idea for a fun wedding day DIY?
