Our Wedding // The Barbeque

our wedding welcome barbeque / a thousand threads
In honor of all of the barbeques I’m sure will take place this week for the 4th of July, I thought I’d share a few pictures from our wedding barbeque.

Before I go on, though, can we take a second to talk about the fact that “barbeque” doesn’t mean the same thing on the west coast as it does on the east?

Our Wedding // The Stars

our wedding stars / a thousand threadsour wedding stars / a thousand threads our wedding stars / a thousand threads
During our ceremony, along with our handwritten vows, we chose to share the following reading…

Understand, I’ll slip quietly
away from the noisy crowd
when I see the pale
stars rising, blooming over the oaks.

I’ll pursue solitary pathways
through the pale twilit meadows,
with only this one dream:
You come too.

Nothing could sum us up better than that… slipping away under the stars, just us two…

And I’ve never seen anything like the stars on that night.

Thank you all so much for your kind words this week. It’s been such a pleasure to share our day!

Our Wedding // The Film

This. I don’t know where to begin with this. I wanted to post our whole wedding film, vows and all, because from the second it begins… I cry. There are very few things I own that mean as much to me as this little film.

I will be forever grateful to The Cana Family (you should really check out their gorgeous new website, by the way) who not only made this happen, but introduced us to the best band ever — we were almost ready to give up our search and I swear they read our minds… they found just the band for us — and truly made our whole day that much more amazing just by being there. This is the icing, you guys… I couldn’t have asked for more.

Next up: The Stars

Our Wedding // The Party

our reception / a thousand threads
In addition to being one of the happiest days of our lives, our wedding was also kind of an amazing party.

After Mark and I kicked things off with our first dance, everyone was quick to join in (it was hard not to with such an amazing band!).  The dancing went on all night, and even escalated to a point — I still have no idea how this started, but it was incredible — where everyone at the party co-opted an instrument and played along…

Our Wedding // The Reception

our reception / a thousand threads
In true California form, the week leading up to our wedding was gorgeous.  Sunny, low 80s, just right for an outdoor wedding.

Then we arrived, and immediately things went south.  Rain, fog, cold, you name it… the weather was bad.  My biggest fear was that we’d come to this gorgeous place high up in the mountains to get married, and on the day of the wedding the fog would be so thick that we wouldn’t be able to see each other, let alone the view.  By the time Saturday came, I didn’t even mind if we had to move things inside, but I was done with that fog.

Of course, we were lucky…

Our Wedding // The Ceremony

our wedding ceremony / a thousand threads
I didn’t think it was possible, but our ceremony was even better than I could have imagined.

Even though we went back and forth over what it should include, all we really needed were our vows.  Staring into Mark’s eyes through my tears, saying the words I’d pored over for months… I’ve never meant anything more.

Our Wedding // The Look

our wedding look / a thousand threads
Those of you who’ve followed along for a while know the whole story behind my dress… how I knew it was right, but then just continued to worry… because well, that’s me.

Like most brides, I obsessed a bit about the dress, shoes, veil or no veil, sash or no sash… but in the end, by some stroke of pure luck, everything came together in a way that I truly loved.

The Five Things I Remember From My Wedding Day

the five things i remember from my wedding day / a thousand threads
Later this week, Mark and I are off to Oregon for one of my best and oldest friends’ weddings.  I’m full of emotion over the trip, not just because I get to go home, but also because I couldn’t be happier to see this lady I love marry a guy who I know will be good to her.  She deserves it more than anyone I know.

So, in the middle of all of this emotion and talking to her about her wedding, particularly the ceremony, I got to thinking about my own day (we just recently passed our six month anniversary by the way!) and realized that these are the five things I remember most…

Spring Wedding /Pin/spiration

spring wedding inspiration
If it’s as gloomy in your neck of the woods as it is around here (rain for two days straight now…) you’re probably on the lookout for a little bit of spring. I know I am! So I thought I’d share some of my favorite spring (pin)spiration to brighten up the day.

First up, spring weddings! The best thing about a spring wedding is the flowers. I was so jealous of all of you spring brides when I planned my November nuptials… you never realize just how many flowers are not available in the fall! But everything is around in the spring… peonies, poppies, anemones, you name it! It’s all there. So any good spring inspiration, in my opinion, is full of flowers and lets them shine… that’s why I love all of the neutral colors in the recent inspiration I’ve seen — what better way to let those gorgeous flowers shine than to choose a light, ethereal palette with your bouquet as the star.

(I won’t lie, a neutral palette is usually my favorite no matter what the season… but doesn’t it look especially beautiful in the spring?)

Be sure to head over to the links — the pictures on the page are only the beginning of the beautiful inspiration you’ll find. And stay tuned, because a little later in the day I have a recipe roundup you won’t want to miss!

Love // Spring Engagement Shoot Inspiration

engagement shoot inspiration / a thousand threadsengagement shoot inspiration / a thousand threads
I’m so happy that spring is finally here, with its longer days and warmer weather, that just looking at these shots makes me giddy…

Elise and Edwin’s engagements on Granville Island were taken by the water, in the city, and under big blooming trees, and the sunny shots just reek of everything spring. They’re the perfect bit of pretty for this bright, beautiful Wednesday — especially since I’ll be stuck inside, dreaming of a good book and a picnic under one of those trees…
