A Long Weekend

weekend love / a thousand threads
Long weekends are the best and the worst… so much extra time, but it still seems to go by so fast. As always, I have a long list of things I’d love to get done… but in the end, if all I do is spend a little extra time catching up with my guy, I think we’ll call it good.

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Dark chocolate almond butter cups… with sea salt.

These gorgeous bunad blankets.

I’m dying for a pair of these ankle boots.

This Valentines-inspired proposal shoot wins my vote for the best of the holiday.

Social media do’s and don’ts.

Helen Mirren is my hero.

A photographic guide to looking concerned while meeting with the President.

Soooo inspiring.

How to run a blog outta your car — sure to be epic.

These super cute downloadable graphics.

Video game characters in real life.

Thanks for being mine.

One Little Goal // 2

a thousand threads
In the spirit of honesty and accountability… I have to admit that I did slip once or twice on my January goal.  What can I say?  It’s been a long, cold month and sometimes a girl just needs some Starbucks.  But overall, I’m happy to report that I really have cut down.  In fact, if we do a little math, I was having one tall cup, at about $3 and 120 calories a pop, at least 3 days a week when I set my goal to cut back… and even when I include the two cup slip, that comes out to $30 and 1200 calories in four weeks… which I know doesn’t seem like much, but think about those numbers over the course of a year.

Guys that’s $360 and over 14,000 calories… otherwise known as 4 lbs.

I mean I know it’s not as simple as all that (I’ve probably been replacing those calories with something else) but when you add it all up, it really can make a difference.

So, in the spirit of using small steps to accomplish great things, I thought I’d tackle something different this month.  And since the idea is to eventually work toward some bigger goals here, my February goal is to write one sentence a day that has nothing to do with work or the blog.  My goal is to do a little journaling.

It doesn’t matter what the sentence relates to… it can be whatever just happens to be on my mind.  The idea is just to get that pen to paper and see what comes out.  And already I can tell that this particular goal is going to be good for me.

Who knows, maybe at the end of this month I’ll even share a few of my sentences!  (haha a whole other level of rambling from me… I’m sure you’re stoked).

So, until then, tell me… what are some of your goals?  Big, small, or anywhere in between?

P.S. Catch up on January’s goal here.

Close, No Cigar

friday love / a thousand threads
No snow for us! Ha!

Actually I’m really jealous… it’s been such a long time since we’ve had a nice big snowstorm. And I know there are a ton of terrible things that can come of a big storm, lack of power being key, but there’s also always a chance you might just have to hunker down in a nice warm house and drink hot cocoa all weekend… which, after a couple of really busy weekends in a row, is kind of where I’m at… so stay warm those of you just (literally only a few miles) north of me!

Drink some hot cocoa and make some snow angels for me… even though I’m not much of a fan of winter, I really do love (or maybe just miss… it’s been more than two years!) the white fluffy stuff.

Here are a few of my favorites…

These adorable floral friendship bracelets.

This single ladies Valentines brunch.

The creatures of oh, albatross — I’m dying over this guy.

Spring ’13 Scout & Catalogue.

This genius new fashion blog — h/t to the always-inspiring Anne Sage.

Million dollar nuggets.

The prettiest wedding dresses from Whitney Deal.

Alt advice for beginning bloggers.

I’m late to this, but just in case… it’s worth it.

Turns out, those divorce statistics you’ve heard aren’t one size fits all.

The Inauguration on Holga

2013 inauguration on Holga2013 inauguration on Holga
We hadn’t planned on going to the inauguration until just a few days before, when I heard from one of my best friends who had a few extra tickets, super close.  Since we didn’t attend the last time around (it was something like 6 degrees) we really couldn’t pass the opportunity up.  Political junkie and shameless Obama/MObama fan that I am, I would have regretted missing their second time around.  Plus, it was a chance to spend some time with my friend who lives four hours away in New York… I don’t get to see her nearly as much as I’d like…

Shadows and Super Bowls

friday love / a thousand threads
So many good things to look forward to this weekend! Groundhog Day, the Super Bowl, all of the tasty goodness that goes along with the Super Bowl (because let’s be honest, I’m in this for the bean dip…).

I’m having a tough time picking sides, west coast vs. east coast and all (Oregon doesn’t have a pro team so this has always been kind of a sticky subject) but I suppose as a Marylander it’s my duty to root as strongly as I possibly can for the Ravens… whilst drinking natty boh and eating a Dangerously Delicious Pie (so good).

How about you? Who are you rooting for? Any big plans?

As always, a few links to add to your Friday fun…

The cutest little heart cookies (get used to it, it’s gonna be cheesy for a couple of weeks).

Personalized Mast Bros?  Bash, Please… I don’t even know what to say.  You rock.

Sooo much house envy.

I want every single piece of this outfit.

Tips for decreasing negative self-talk.

Not only is this the most relaxing, beautiful site I think I’ve ever seen… it looks like home!!

This honest, unexpected (and frankly, totally brilliant) reaction from alt.

A few gentle reminders about writing.

Pretty Valentines accessories from Proenza Schouler.

What does your partner do that gets on your nerves?

Garance interviews Stella.

Pretty much my idea of heaven.

Be Mine, Valentine

love lettersvalentines dayvalentines day
Mark and I just made our reservations for the 14th at the same little restaurant that we went to last year. It’s not usually packed, so (at least for now) we can still claim it as our own. We don’t do gifts, but the night is a great excuse to go out for a romantic evening and celebrate each other…

Overblown expectations and commercialism be damned — I like this holiday.

How about you? Have you started making your plans for Valentines Day yet?

(even if your plans include throwing an ‘I hate Valentines Day’ party?)

The art of the love letter (and tons more holiday goodness) at Terrain.
Heart shaped tags from Olive Manna.
A pretty coral dress from J. Crew.
How to bake an apple tart (with hearts).
Tea towel from Terrain.
