So That’s Where The Snow Went! Tracy & Nicola’s Italian Engagements

I know I’ve been all about the sunshine lately, but I just couldn’t pass up this gorgeous winter wonderland of an engagement shoot.

And, as it turns out, while I was taking afternoon strolls in the sun, my parents were welcoming mass amounts of snow for the first time in… ever?  Well, maybe since ’69.

Growing up, I really only remember visiting snow.  If it fell on our house it was usually just in time to melt.  I think there might have been one time when I was able to build a very small snowman.  But this year, apparently anything is possible, because this week my childhood home saw a full eight inches of snow.

So, while you’re missing the snow that you might not have received this year, tell me, is this the prettiest winter shoot you’ve ever seen?  I think it is.

70 Degrees and Sunny

I’m stuck inside, working my little fingers to the bone (boo) but I’m thankful for the sun shining through my window, and the sun that is beginning to shine on our wedding plans. Thanks to (finally, painfully) loosening my grip a little and letting Mark take control, we’re down to just one or two final vendors. And once those details are squared away, the real fun can begin… like booking our honeymoon.

Playing Chase

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fznQ_XRslo]
In case you had any doubt that spring has sprung… Spiderman just so happened to find himself in a game of tag with a four day old lamb this weekend.

Sadly, I only got to take one of them home, but I think he’ll do.

Happy Friday!

The weather is beginning to warm, daylight savings is just around the corner, and we just bought tickets to our first two concerts of the season… even though the winter was a little elusive this year, the warm weather never quite had that feeling that spring and summer do.  There is just something that is so much happier, more hopeful… just all around better about this time of year.

I’m loving the plans, the possibilities, and the fact that before another winter rolls around, I’ll be a married lady.  The excitement is building!

Here are a few more things I’m loving this week…

The NotWedding Inspiration Shoot

How sad am I that I don’t live in Atlanta, Orlando, or San Diego?  Right now, very.  Because if I did, I would definitely be attending The NotWedding.

The NotWedding is not your average bridal show.  Instead, NotWedding vendors perform their services just as they would at a real wedding, and you — the “wedding guests” — get to enjoy a fabulous night of great food and dancing.  The goal is that you might walk away thinking, “That was the best wedding ever! I want mine to be like that one!”  And, of course, “I have to have _____ be a part of my wedding!”

The event began when budding photographer Callie Murray thought to herself, “What better way to help brides discover amazing wedding opportunities and showcase my friends’ talents than to throw the ultimate wedding?!”

Today Callie was sweet enough to share a few shots, along with Tiffany of Rustic White Photography, from their Atlanta inspiration shoot.  And after seeing these, I don’t know how you could miss the event!

Act quickly, though.  Atlanta happens tomorrow!  And Orlando and San Diego take place later this month.  You can buy your tickets here.

Floral Inspiration: Hydrangeas

floral inspiration
Mark and I have a special love for hydrangeas.  Early on in our relationship, I moved into a new apartment with a lovely front patio.  To celebrate the move, Mark brought me the most beautiful hydrangea and placed it outside the door in a big red pot.

We joked that it was our “love hydrangea,” and in the end the joke kind of stuck… we got attached to the thing.

Over the years we’ve fought to keep that little hydrangea alive and as strong as our love… and despite a few setbacks, it’s stronger than ever.  So, the day he proposed, Mark left me a hydrangea.

Season: Hydrangeas are available nearly all year, but are most plentiful in early spring.

Meaning: Japanese legend has it that the emperor once sent a bouquet of hydrangeas to apologize to the family of a girl he loved.  It was his only recorded apology. The flower has come to symbolize earnestness and honest emotion, from joy to grief.

Pros: Hydrangeas have very sturdy, woody stems and come in a wide range of colors.  Common shades are blues, purples, whites, pinks and greens.  Hydrangeas are also beautiful dried, so if you plan to preserve and keep your bouquet, you might consider using hydrangeas.

Cons: Hydrangeas can be fragile and dislike the heat.  To avoid drooping, keep your bouquet in water as much and as long as possible.

Happy Friday!

I know it’s a little cliché, but wow.  The time between your engagement and your wedding… it flies.  In just a month my mom will be here to help me pick out my dress.  The date was chosen because it was fairly close to the wedding… close enough that I wouldn’t regret my choice, but far enough away for alterations.  It seemed so distant in July, but winter has come (sort of) and gone and spring is nearly here.

Just one month after (in May) we’ll be in California for our engagement shots, hair and makeup trials, tastings… all the final touches.  Then it’s summer… and soon after we’ll be married…

I know it’s still a lot of time.  Some people plan an entire wedding over the course of the time we have left.  But to me, it seems like no time at all.  I know how fast the next few months will fly, and right now, if I could ask for anything in the world, it would simply be the ability to enjoy this moment.  To take a deep breath and really savor the fact that I’m about to marry my best friend… the guy I love.  Despite all of the planning and prepping that threatens to get in the way, I couldn’t be more excited about that fact.

But, on another note (because the planning really is fun sometimes): Where I should take my mom on her very first trip to NYC?  I’m working on ideas now and I know there are more than a few of you out there with some really good advice.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

A Little Inspiration: Pretty Pastels

Streamer Garland / Horses / Vase / Bouquet / Chandelier / Bride / Table / Bridesmaids / Ties / Door

There is something so classic about a pretty pastel wedding.  Add in a few rustic touches and I’m sold.  For me, this look comes close to perfect.

The Diet

fried food
Admit it.  If you’re engaged, you’ve probably thought about a diet once or twice.  We all want to look our best, and even the most fit and fantastic of us are rarely able to see past those few extra pounds they swear they have to lose (even if they really don’t).  It’s sad, to be sure, but true.

Because Mark and I are anything but immune to the same concerns, and have recently scheduled our engagement shots, the pressure is officially on.   We’ve started a diet, and right now Mark is cursing me for even daring to show him the picture above.

To be honest, though, I’m not a big fan of diets.  I can’t bring myself to jump on board with any of the latest fads, and just the idea brings to mind images of starvation and a little weight loss followed by binge eating and loads of weight gain.  I hate them, and in many cases I might even admit that I don’t believe in them.
