Movie Night

movie night at family mealmovie night at family meal
Due to my love of drive-in movies and… well, food — on Friday night, I hurried home to make it to a screening of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs outside one of our favorite restaurants, Family Meal.  The event was put on to benefit Frederick Reads — a cool partnership between Frederick County Public Libraries and dozens of local organizations to encourage kids to read.

Sun is Shining

lucketts / a thousand threadslucketts / a thousand threads
We decided to spend our Saturday wandering through the shops in Lucketts, VA — drooling over everything we’d love to take home. At this point, Austin was still feeling pretty good about the whole thing… particularly because he’s a shameless ham.

Then he realized that this wasn’t the only shop.

5 Fantastic Things

Arnold at Arnold Classic
That happened this weekend…

1 // We marveled at the superhuman ridiculousness of elite crossfitters and giggled (I may have giggled the most) at the, well, just ridiculousness of elite bodybuilders… I know it’s a lot of work guys — really, I have so much respect — but you look like unusually athletic oompa loompas.

2 // It snowed, morning to night. All day and then some… and not a single flake stuck. What are you, Ohio?

I’m not sure if this is the best or worst thing to ever happen to snow… it was like a white fluffy mirage.

3 // This was the first thing we saw when we crossed into Ohio. I think it speaks for itself.

4 // We ate chips and salsa in bed while downloading a movie that, for all I know, may still be downloading. It took all night.

5// We learned how obsessively long people will wait in line to get a picture with a well oiled body builder or spandex clad fitness model (oh but of course we can’t forget the free t-shirt).

The Inauguration on Holga

2013 inauguration on Holga2013 inauguration on Holga
We hadn’t planned on going to the inauguration until just a few days before, when I heard from one of my best friends who had a few extra tickets, super close.  Since we didn’t attend the last time around (it was something like 6 degrees) we really couldn’t pass the opportunity up.  Political junkie and shameless Obama/MObama fan that I am, I would have regretted missing their second time around.  Plus, it was a chance to spend some time with my friend who lives four hours away in New York… I don’t get to see her nearly as much as I’d like…

Mark and Laicie Brew Some Beer

beer brewing / a thousand threadsbeer brewing / a thousand threads
Now that the fateful tasting day has passed and I can safely say that I haven’t been poisoned, I’m super excited to share some shots from our recent beer brewing adventure!

If you follow me on instagram you might already know that our (kind of middle-of-nowhere) town has a pretty fantastic “brew your own” facility where a guy and a gal can gain access to brewing equipment they’ve scarcely dared to dream of and go to town.

The place is kind of amazing…

Our Honeymoon // Máncora

mancora / a thousand threads
Okay, one last set of shots and then I promise I’ll stop… pinky swear.

Máncora is a tiny little town close to Ecuador that’s popular with local tourists… and also with super huge tourists like us (see below).

It was gorgeous and just what the doctor ordered after our hike… in fact I think I am literally still on a high from all the lazing around we were able to do.

Our Honeymoon // A few things we learned in Peru

machu picchu / a thousand threads
Okay it’s unofficially honeymoon week around here, so today I thought I’d share our shots from Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes… but while I’m at it, I should note that it was around this point in our trip that we started to clue in to a few little details about the country we were visiting… such as, there might be an extra cup of sugar in your salad… and an extra cup of pisco in your sour…

So, because we crack ourselves up (no promises on anyone else…) here are a few of the things we learned in Peru…

Our Honeymoon // The Inca Trail

One of the first adventures Mark and I ever talked about taking was to the Inca Trail. We’d both always wanted to see Machu Picchu, and the trail made it feel like some untouched, unreachable place (even though these days it’s anything but). Once, early on, Mark even brought me a magazine with a picture of Machu Picchu on the front just because we’d talked about it so much. We promised each other that someday, we’d go.

Our Honeymoon // Cusco and the Sacred Valley

peru / a thousand threads
For our honeymoon, we wanted to do something we’d never forget, and when we thought about it, we realized that some of our most amazing trips together have also been our biggest adventures.  So in the end, after considering a ton of different possibilities, we decided that we’d head to Peru, where we could not just relax, but also tackle a bucket list trek.

It’s not everyone’s idea of the perfect honeymoon… but for us, it couldn’t have been better.

Head in the Clouds

in the clouds
Looking at the pictures from our honeymoon I feel like my head is still there, up in the clouds. Three weeks is a long time to be away! Everything is still fuzzy and a little discombobulated… and even though it’s a kind of a hardcore game of catch-up I’m already playing, I’m excited for all of the possibilities that seem open now that wedding planning is done. After all of the time I’ve spent (I had no idea how much I would…) it seems like such an opportunity. I could do anything right now you guys.
