Prepping for Holiday Parties

prepping for holiday parties / a thousand threads
Muzio asked me to share a little something for the holidays in their magazine this month, and Mark, Austin and I had a ton of fun wandering around town to find just the right things to include.

Follow along and find the hostess gift I created here.

… and check back, because I’ll be sharing the recipe later this week!

P.S. Wish me luck, I’m off to take my GRE!

Edible Gifts // Hot Buttered Rum

Nothing is better than hot buttered rum on a cold winter night — it’s a scientifically proven fact.

So what could be a better hostess gift for all of the late fall and winter parties to come?

A Better Halloween Party Playlist

the ultimate halloween party playlist / a thousand threads
Lou Reed, Haim, and The Ramones… because who wants to listen to another round of Monster Mash?

Not me. But just so you know (because you really care) you do have my permission to listen to Thriller all you want… just as long as you dance your ass off.

Michael always wins.

Listen to a better Halloween party playlist (okay so maybe that’s just my opinion, but I hope you like it too) on Spotify here.

It’s practically Halloween (for real this time)

halloween link love / a thousand threads
Halloween is almost here! Are you getting excited? And the weather seems to know how much I like a good cup of something warm in my hands while we hand out treats… it’s cooperating so well.

This year I’m thinking we might have to break out the mulled wine a little early, given that it looks so darn festive in that picture above. And even though we have one pumpkin… I’m trying to decide if it might need a fun friend. (There are so many good ideas this year!)

What about you? Are you busy this weekend with last-minute holiday prep? Or do you already have a bowl of candy waiting at the door?

Eye the amazing art in this home.

Buy a new throw pillow (I want and need so many!)

Make some sweet pumpkins with chalkboard paint.

Bake (umm… cook?) some mulled wine. (So good on cold nights…)

This is just an insanely fantastic diy. So crafty, that girl. I’m still swooning over her garment rack.

To bra or not to bra?

Choosing just two to-dos.

This husband’s pictures of his wife are beyond heartbreaking… and beautiful.

Because Bill Murray is the man, and Rushmore is amazing.

Lately I’ve been dying for a camping trip, and the 4th just seems like the perfect time… what says summer more than s’mores and sparklers?

Happy first day of July! (Can you believe it’s already July?!)

Happy Mother’s Day!

happy mother's day / a thousand threads
To my beautiful mom, my best friend.  Thank you for being there for me always.

I’m a lucky girl to have you to look up to.

And to all of the moms out there, have a happy Mother’s Day!  I hope you were able to talk someone into bringing you breakfast in bed.

The Best Mother’s Day Ever // Breakfast in Bed (And Banana-Walnut Pancakes)

banana walnut pancakes / a thousand threads
I’m not going to say that I would mind a sweet new pair of sunglasses, maybe that bathing suit I’ve been coveting… but on Mother’s Day, really, all a lady wants is to feel the love.

As a kid I would make my mom breakfast in bed (and she was always very sweet to stay there – in bed – pretending she was still asleep until I drug my lazy butt into the kitchen and up to her room).

I can’t imagine how the food must have tasted. I commend her now for choking it down. But on those mornings she would ooh and aww and make me feel special just for making her feel special, and it was always a good start to the day.
