Welcome to the Weekend!

christmas
Just one more work week ’til Christmas!  (is that right?)

This weekend I’ll be holing up in my kitchen with a glass of wine and a great excuse to bake all of the ridiculous delicious-ness that lives on my pin board.  Christmas cookie time is my favorite… my pots and pans are literally sprouting legs and walking themselves to the oven as we speak.  They’re that excited.

Do you have any special plans?

Here are a few of my favorites…

Brilliant.

A Sunday Suppers book!

Colbert on cynicism.

I am a nerd.  And these are super cool.

This perfect little Christmas tree.

Understated Christmas decor.

Oh goodness.

Homemade bitters.

10 rules for a successful Christmas tree brought to you by your favorite non-practicing WASP.

Because you are.

These kill me with their cute-ness.

Our house is super cold in the winter… (hint, wink)

Because I don’t know, Mariah is synonymous with Christmas and this is awesome.

Jen Huang can do no wrong.

Tree Hunting

tree hunting / a thousand threads
The same week we returned from our honeymoon, Mark, Austin, and I kicked off our fun old fashion family Christmas by heading out into the country in the old front-wheel drive sleigh to embrace the frosty majesty of the winter landscape and select that most important of Christmas symbols.

… a thymbol of the thpirit of the Griswold family Chrithmath.

And even though I’m a little offended that these shots don’t involve even the slightest bit of snow, I do so love to hunt for the perfect tree. Growing up, we always picked our tree out at a lot… and I’m not gonna say it wasn’t great buuut… this is kind of better.

A whole lot better.

Love // Seaside Wedding Inspiration

real weddings / a thousand threads
I’ve said it before, but having just gone through my own I feel like it just can’t be said enough… there is nothing like the emotion of a wedding day. Friends and family all in one place, coming together to toast to the future… it’s an amazing feeling. Not only to be marrying your best friend, but to be so close to all of the people you love.

My favorite wedding shots are always those that capture that emotion… and Amber and Austin’s gorgeous seaside affair does just that.

Happy Friday!

fall wedding inspiration
And cheers to another holiday weekend!  I’m excited to cozy up with a big sweater and a cup of something warm to trim our lonely tree.

We took a trip to the farm last weekend and carried the little guy home, but it’s been such a non-stop week that the poor thing has just been waiting, staring at me through the window when I come home at night… whimpering a little when I leave in the morning.  I’m embarrassed to say what terrible tree parents we are… but this weekend, it’s time we dress the guy up.

We’re also planning to brew a little holiday beer… anyone out there have any tips?  Because right now we’re just hoping to come up with something remotely drinkable…

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

This lovely fall wedding inspiration.

My favorite holiday tradition… Santa tracking.

This is just… it looks too delicious for words.

Sweet stocking stuffers.

This gorgeous DIY winter wedding wreath.

Holiday desktop backgrounds?  Why not.

The latest book I’m reading (and loving).

This adorable little family and their van.

Our Honeymoon // Máncora

mancora / a thousand threads
Okay, one last set of shots and then I promise I’ll stop… pinky swear.

Máncora is a tiny little town close to Ecuador that’s popular with local tourists… and also with super huge tourists like us (see below).

It was gorgeous and just what the doctor ordered after our hike… in fact I think I am literally still on a high from all the lazing around we were able to do.

Our Honeymoon // A few things we learned in Peru

machu picchu / a thousand threads
Okay it’s unofficially honeymoon week around here, so today I thought I’d share our shots from Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes… but while I’m at it, I should note that it was around this point in our trip that we started to clue in to a few little details about the country we were visiting… such as, there might be an extra cup of sugar in your salad… and an extra cup of pisco in your sour…

So, because we crack ourselves up (no promises on anyone else…) here are a few of the things we learned in Peru…

Our Honeymoon // The Inca Trail

One of the first adventures Mark and I ever talked about taking was to the Inca Trail. We’d both always wanted to see Machu Picchu, and the trail made it feel like some untouched, unreachable place (even though these days it’s anything but). Once, early on, Mark even brought me a magazine with a picture of Machu Picchu on the front just because we’d talked about it so much. We promised each other that someday, we’d go.

Our Honeymoon // Cusco and the Sacred Valley

peru / a thousand threads
For our honeymoon, we wanted to do something we’d never forget, and when we thought about it, we realized that some of our most amazing trips together have also been our biggest adventures.  So in the end, after considering a ton of different possibilities, we decided that we’d head to Peru, where we could not just relax, but also tackle a bucket list trek.

It’s not everyone’s idea of the perfect honeymoon… but for us, it couldn’t have been better.

Friday Link Love

french farmhouse christmas
Oh how I’ve missed my link love!  During the day, when my mind inevitably wanders toward my reader all I have to do is think of this weekly post and suddenly I feel so productive (hey, cuddly kittens do equal productivity, right?).  It’s totally not my fault, I have to read the blogs so I can… keep up… my… own… okay maybe there’s a hole there but never you mind.

Anyway, I’m having so much fun catching up on everything I’ve missed the past few weeks, especially the holiday gift guides that seem to be everywhere (and thank the stars for that because I need them desperately this year).  It’s crazy to jump from the beach straight into the holiday season, but it just makes me that much more excited to get into the spirit… and by that what I really mean is that the mulled wine begins now.  It’s cold.

But seriously, bring on the Christmas cheer, with a little break in my back pocket I’m relaxed and ready to go.  I might even try a DIY or two.  Who knows?

(Don’t get excited, I DIY at approximately a third grade level.  We’ll be lucky if everyone comes out alive.)

What are your plans for the weekend?  Are you as excited for the holidays as I am?

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

French farmhouse Christmas bits I pine for every year… and while we’re at it, I’ll take the farmhouse too.

I’m seriously considering making cranberry relish this weekend just so I can have this (I am actually pretty sad I missed out on leftovers).

Do you send holiday cards?

I can see this packing guide coming in super handy.

A Subtle Revelry’s holiday issue.

Tons and tons of healthy smoothie recipes. (also: healthy booze)

Nutella cinnamon rolls.

You should be mine.

Whiskey escort cards — brilliant.
