Head in the Clouds

in the clouds
Looking at the pictures from our honeymoon I feel like my head is still there, up in the clouds. Three weeks is a long time to be away! Everything is still fuzzy and a little discombobulated… and even though it’s a kind of a hardcore game of catch-up I’m already playing, I’m excited for all of the possibilities that seem open now that wedding planning is done. After all of the time I’ve spent (I had no idea how much I would…) it seems like such an opportunity. I could do anything right now you guys.

Coming Home

winter's here
You guys.  I’m not ready.  It’s cold, gloomy, I probably have to stop having dessert with every meal (and occasionally in between) — vacation is way too much fun to ever end.

But actually I am kind of excited to get back to some of the best parts of our day to day — and I can’t wait to fill you all in on our past few weeks!

Plus, it’s already time to buy a tree.  How cool is that?

Thank you SO SO much to all of the wonderful ladies who filled in while I was away!!  I had so much fun checking in on all of your amazing posts.

Tradition

DIY thanksgiving placemat
This year we’re planning on a super untraditional Thanksgiving. In fact, we won’t even be in the country — we’ll still be on our honeymoon in Peru. But really, we’re crazy excited about it. Even though our Thanksgiving meal won’t include turkey or cranberry relish (my fave) we will be thankful for each other and for the fact that we are able to afford to travel, to eat, to put a roof over our heads… there are so many things to be thankful for in life, and that’s what the day is really about.

That said, I love me a good tradition… tell me all about yours. Do you do the same thing every year or do you like to switch it up?

The Cutest Cake Toppers Ever from Gloria

Hi all! I’m Gloria from Little White Whale, and I’m so happy to be guest blogging for Laicie while she’s off getting hitched!

My husband and I got married two years ago, and one of my favorite parts of wedding planning was picking a fun topper for our cake…apart from tasting it, of course 🙂 It was a bit of a challenge to find one that fit our quirky style, but eventually we came across a pair of adorable wooden cows that were just perfect for our barn wedding! They injected our simple cake with lots of personality, and were an absolute hit with all our guests – even our grumpiest relatives couldn’t resist their sweet charm. To this day, I can’t help but smile every time I get a glimpse of the two little cows watching over our family from atop the bookshelf. Who knew a simple cake topper would be one of my dearest wedding mementos?

What’s the best piece of marriage advice you’ve ever received?

rylee hitchner
My Fridays are always so much fun… I love being able to share my favorite things with you all, but since I’m away, I thought it might be fun to ask you to share with me! When I come back I’ll be married to my very best friend (and as I write this you guys… I can’t wait!!) so I wanted to ask you… what’s the best piece of marriage advice you’ve ever received?

There are so many classics… don’t go to bed angry, say ‘I love you’ every day… but what, in your mind, is the real key?

3 Simple Rules to Growing Your Blog from TJ

tj / his little lady
Hi there lovely readers! I’m TJ, author of the lifestyle journal His Little Lady. I’m a newlywed, blogger, Seattlelite, instagram junky, closet hoarder, and big city dreamer. There you will find updates with photographs, ideas and those daily, awkward moments. Today I am so happy to be on this corner of the Internet, A Thousand Threads, talking to you all on three simple rules to growing your blog.

When I first started blogging I wasn’t sure where it would lead. I was newly engaged and wanted a little space to encapsulate every precious moment in that time of my life. As time past I continued to blog. I found joy in this little community, and knowing that my voice had purpose.

Blogging just over a year and a half now, I want to stress that I am no professional. But I have found a little success in this blog community and wanted to share with you all some simple rules that have helped me to grow my blog into what it is today. So here are my three simple rules to growing a blog.

1. Write what you know best, and keep that as the center point of your blog. Stay true to yourself and write on topics that inspire you. It’s easy to get bombarded with other people’s views on what’s worth blogging about or not. But no one knows you better than yourself. One tip I’ve learned from another blogger is to write the way you’d talk to a friend. When people meet you, you want them to say, “You’re just like your blog!”

2. It ain’t nothing but a number. Always remember the main reason why you started your blog. Don’t let your motivation change to that pesky number on the side. When you love what you write, people love to read it. BUT, if you are looking to share your site with more people it’s important to use all of those amazing social networks that are open to us: twitter, instagram, pinterest, Facebook, etc.

3. Be invested. Be invested in your blog and your readers. Blogging can be a full time job if you let it – being consistent with your blog posts, commenting to other bloggers, sponsoring and sending emails. The more you show your readers you invest in them, they will invest in you ten fold.

*This is something that I have really found to ring true!

There you have it, my three simple rules to growing a blog. I hope you find all the success you are searching for in this blogging world. And I hope to see you all over on my site soon. Sending much wedding bliss to Laicie, and thanks for choosing me to be apart of your lovely site!

Hurricane Pudding

rum bread pudding / a thousand threadsrum bread pudding / a thousand threads
When a storm is on its way, some folks stock up on water, some on sand bags… but us?

We pull out the alcohol and crusty bread and start making bread pudding… because if the lights go out and the end is nigh we may find ourselves in a dire carb deficit…

… and then what would we do?

Mark is the creative genius behind this ridiculously delicious rum pudding… I found him down in his lab praying that the lights would keep just ten minutes more. Once the pudding was done we’d be ready for anything.

A DIY Wedding Keepsake Hanger from Erica

I blog over at Caught On A Whim.  I’m thrilled Laicie invited me over to share a project with you while she’s away saying her ‘I dos’.

Since Laicie is tying the knot, I thought it would be fun to do a DIY with a wedding theme.  Today’s tutorial is a wedding keepsake hanger, because a wedding gown deserves to hang on something extra special.

A Cold Pumpkin Pie Cocktail from Lena

Cold Pumpkin Pie, Abe & Arthur’s
I’ve adored Laicie and her beautiful blog for quite some time, and I’m incredibly honored that while she’s off getting hitched (a sure-to-be-amazing event I’ve been looking forward to for months!), I’m spending a little time with her amazing readers. I wanted to raise a glass to the newlyweds with something special and autumnal–and when I saw one of my favorite breakfast foods (cold pumpkin pie) reinvented as a cocktail, I knew I’d found the perfect drink for toasting Laicie and Mark!

Cold Pumpkin Pie

2 oz vanilla vodka
2 bar spoons pumpkin puree
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 oz orgeat syrup
shy 1/4 oz Allspice Dram

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice; shake for 10-15 seconds, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Notes: This gorgeous photo from Abe & Arthur’s Restaurant (where the Cold Pumpkin Pie was created) shows a whisper of cinnamon gracing the top of this cocktail–but if you’ve ever shook a little ground spice in your drink, you know it ends up clumping and making you cough. Instead, just a bit of Allspice Dram will give this libation cinnamon spice without marring your glass. Cheers to you, and to the newlyweds!
