The date // A picnic in bed! We’ve had a busy couple of weeks.
The food // Tuna sammiches
The drink // Session lager

This weekend was sort of the weekend of mini-dates. Mark and I are both traveling a ton this month, so the few days we’ve had in between trips have been extra special.

We’ve used the limited time as all the more reason to go out just a little bit more and stress the things we have to get done just a little bit less. So this weekend we had brunch at the Papermoon, drinks and appetizers at The Wine Kitchen, and last but far from least… our own little picnic in bed.

52 dates // a thousand threads
The date // watch our wedding video
The food // chocolate (… that romantic of mine picked up the most amazing chocolate for us to snack on with our sparkling wine)
The drink // the last bottle of sparkling wine from our wedding

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am so so so happy that we decided to film our wedding. Being able to go back and watch our vows… to see our smiling faces and the happiness of our family and friends. There is absolutely nothing like it.

52 dates // a thousand threads
I mentioned once before that as a rule, Mark and I try to do something special just for us about every week — even if that means opening a bottle of wine and watching a movie at home. It doesn’t have to be big and special, it just has to be us. So this year I thought we’d try something fun and record our dates for all of you. Maybe they’ll give you ideas, maybe it will just be a fun way for the two of us to look back and remember the year. Either way, I hope you love following along!

The date // dinner and a movie
The food // sushi and bao
The drink // sake
The movie // American Hustle

The story // You can chalk date one up to too much NPR – or just the right amount, depending on how you feel about NPR. Mark and I are both big fans, especially of the weekend programming – Car Talk, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, Radiolab, This American Life – and lately we’ve taken to driving just a little bit longer to hear the end of whatever program we’re listening to. Some of these shows are truly amazing and we always learn so much.

… okay this is really nerdy. But you’re with me, right?

Frederick’s 4th annual Christmas light ride

holiday light ride / a thousand threadsholiday light ride / a thousand threads
Last night Mark and I hopped on our (fantastically decorated, thanks to Mark) bikes for a little ride around the neighborhoods of downtown Frederick.

On it, I learned that even when you think you’ve seen the biggest inflatable holiday decor ever made, out there somewhere there’s a guy with a Santa twice as big as his house.

… oh, and Santa’s workshop is alive and well on someone’s porch.

Some people really like Christmas.

Christmas tree, Christmas tree. Where can you be?

our christmas tree / a thousand threadsour christmas tree / a thousand threads
On Saturday we packed up the car and drove to the Christmas tree farm to hunt for a tree — hands down my favorite Christmas activity, since as a kid we always hit a lot.

(Clearly. Can you feel the excitement up there?)

And even though we were just a tiny bit early for the snow (now the ground is covered!) I think we might’ve just found our best tree yet…

A Sunday hike on Sugarloaf Mountain

sugarloaf mountain / a thousand threadssugarloaf mountain / a thousand threads
Mark’s birthday and his father’s are close, so we always have a week of celebration at the end of October. And when we’re lucky, the weather is just right for a family hike.

When Austin was 3 and 4, he’d toddle up the hill, using his hands and feet to climb over the rocks.

You know when you feel like you need a vacation from your vacation?

It was that good.

… and I can’t wait to share! For now though, we’re catching up on our DVR. Boardwalk Empire came back while we were away!

The Billy Goat Trail + Some Sad Rooftop Fireworks // Our 4th

hiking on the billy goat trail / a thousand threads
One of the first trails Mark, Austin and I ever hiked together (Austin was still riding in a backpack at the time) was the Billy Goat Trail at Great Falls.  The trail is like a little oasis so close to the city, and is one of my favorite places in Maryland, so this 4th of July we decided to take Austin again to celebrate six years.  This time, though, he didn’t need any help getting around… in fact he ran circles around us.  “What are we waiting for?” was the phrase of the day.

And judging by this worn out shot I’m gonna say it was me…

Our iPhone Life

life lately / a thousand threads
Just a little roundup of shots we’ve snapped along the way. It’s been a busy few months and I can only imagine how much busier it’s about to get (maybe next time we’ll remember to take some shots of ourselves!)

Follow along over here if you’re not already — we have some big things planned for this summer, and instagram always seems to be the first to know.
