Fresh Fig Tart with Rosemary Cornmeal Crust and Lemon Mascarpone Cream

fresh fig tart with rosemary cornmeal crust and lemon mascarpone cream / a thousand threads
Two days before I decided to make this tart, I realized I’d finally need to go out and buy a tart pan with a removable bottom. Why? Because I wanted to take pretty pictures of the rosemary crust, of course… purchases in this house aren’t usually based around logic.

Take our new friend Chuck, for example. In my older age I seem to have developed a love for a certain variety of décor… combine that with my generally (but pretty lax) vegetarian diet and you might find something of a contradiction… but god does Chuck look great on my floor.

That crust was going to look great if I could just find a pan. And that would be easy, right?

Let’s just not talk about the day

a baby alpaca nursery, kilim boots, diy copper wall hooks, and baked brown butter doughnuts
Have I mentioned I’m a little bit superstitious?

… so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t secretly waiting for a piano to drop from the sky (that doesn’t happen where you live?).

Stay safe today — keep your eye on the sky — and have an amazing weekend! The sun will come out when the curly-haired girl said it will… and I have some really fun things to share with you next week!

Eye this baby alpaca nursery — it’s pretty much perfect.

Buy these kilim boots I’m coveting.

Make these diy copper plumbing pipe hooks.

Bake these brown butter doughnuts.

The new pope is kind of awesome.

Mind. Blown.

An interesting experiment at Harvard Business School.

Hopscotch Festival Street Style

hopscotch festival street style / a thousand threads
When the folks at Lenovo mentioned that Mark and I might want to scout out some street style shots while in Raleigh, I have to admit… I was a little skeptical. It’s not exactly your run-of-the-mill 3-day field party at the Hopscotch Festival… and there’s such an eclectic mix of music. Was it going to be a crowd full of metalheads and fans of this guy? Was it ever going to live up to the standards set by the bigger, more well-known shows? I wasn’t so sure.

But I couldn’t have been more wrong…

Hopscotch 2013 With Lenovo

We had an amazing time in Raleigh, but the best part (you probably could’ve guessed) was the reason we were there.

When Lenovo asked if I might like to attend this year’s Hopscotch Music Festival I was in right away. With 3 days of music, covering everything from death metal to classic folk, this up and coming little festival is doing something you don’t really see on the east coast… and it’s doing it *really* well.

The Road to Raleigh

road to raleigh, hopscotch / a thousand threadsroad to raleigh, hopscotch / a thousand threads
While it wasn’t my first time to North Carolina, this trip was my first to Raleigh, and one of only a handful of trips I’ve ever taken to what I’d consider “the south.”

Technically, Frederick is just below the Mason-Dixon line, but any self-respecting southerner would laugh in my face if I were to claim that meant we were southern. I’m not sure where the real line is… maybe somewhere mid-Virginia, right about the time you start to see more churches than Starbucks.

So you might not be surprised to hear that I had next to no idea what to expect…

You know when you feel like you need a vacation from your vacation?

It was that good.

… and I can’t wait to share! For now though, we’re catching up on our DVR. Boardwalk Empire came back while we were away!

Down South

engagement shots by jen huang, a kinfolk cookbook, diy pantone posters, and lemon chocolate cheesecake pots
Happy Friday! I’m writing from the Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, where Lenovo graciously invited us to check out some great new bands — and snap some shots of the awesome street style while we’re here.

I’m hoping to have some fun stuff to share when I get back! For now, here are a few of my favorite links of the week.

Have a great weekend! Come say hi over on Instagram if you have a chance.

Eye this gorgeous Nantucket engagement shoot by Jen Huang.

Buy Kinfolk’s new cookbook!

Make a DIY pantone poster, via Ez.

Bake these lemon chocolate cheesecake pots.

This is awful (and oddly hilarious).

Garance tells it like it is.

Another thing to make? This gorgeous fresh flower pendant light.

This “Blurred Lines” parody wins the day.

I’m crushing on the adorable, eclectic details in this bright white Missouri home — and even more on Clementine Daily, the new site from some of my very favorite folks on the internet.

Have you been yet? If not, be sure to take a look — do you identify with Clementine as much as I do?

The Pros and Cons of Living in a Stepford Neighborhood

a thousand threads
I love our neighborhood. It’s quiet, beautiful, lots of young families with white picket fences… it’s eerily perfect, and I wonder fairly frequently which husband might be pumping out robotic beauties in the basement (maybe those ones that are always at the pool…).

So, along with a few shots we snapped last night on a little family walk, I thought I’d share some pros and cons that go along with living where we do…

Strawberry Peach Skillet Cobbler

strawberry peach skillet cobbler / a thousand threads
So apparently the summer is over, now that Labor Day is gone (you know, if you ignore the fact that its still 90 degrees outside) and even though I’m in full-fledged denial (don’t even talk to me about that “w” word) I have started eating my favorite cold-weather treat.

I know that it’s generally known as a summer dessert, but warm cobbler is just so much better curled up by a fire with a cup of hot cocoa on the side. It’s the quintessential comfort food.

Of course, I did make this one with some summery fruits, because I know you’re not quite ready to move on either.

And because the peaches right now are kind of insane. I guess there’s at least one good thing about the summer coming to an end…
